Byrne Garners Third Career OAC Men’s Wrestler of the Week Accolade

WESTERVILLE, Ohio – Baldwin Wallace University men's wrestling senior All-American and No. 4 nationally ranked 285-pounder Doug Byrne (Wickliffe) has been named the Ohio Athletic Conference Men's Wrestler of the Week for the third time in his career.

Byrne earns the weekly honor after winning all four of his matches by pinfall to the lead the No. 4 nationally ranked Yellow Jackets to a 4-0 record at the Gator Boot Duals hosted by Luther (Iowa) College at the Hendersonville (Tenn.) High School last Saturday.

He opened the duals by defeating Trent Ragland of No. 24 nationally ranked Averett (Va.) University in 6:46. Byrne needed just 29 seconds to defeat Leno Campbell of No. 13 nationally ranked Millikin (Ill.) University. He then pinned Marco Malerba of Roanoke (Va.) College in 1:52. Byrne closed out his day beating Jack Haury of Huntingdon (Ala.) College in 1:05.

This season, he has a record of 19-1.  Byrne has recorded 15 pins, three major decisions and one technical fall.

For his career, Byrne ranks 11th on the school's all-time wins list with a career record of 104-18.  He has tallied 64 pins, 14 major decisions and four technical falls.

BW is back in action on Friday and Saturday, January 5 and 6 when it travels to Cedar Falls, Iowa to compete in the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) National Duals at the University of Northern Iowa Dome.
