Burk and Thompson Lead Men's Swimming and Diving at Day One of the OAC Championships

AKRON, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University men's swimming and diving team set two school records on the opening day of competition of the Ohio Athletic Conference Championships hosted by John Carroll University in the Ocasek Natatorium on the campus of the University of Akron.

The Yellow Jackets stand fifth of seven teams with 88 points. Ohio Northern is the leader after day one with 223 points.

The Yellow Jacket men set two school records one each by All-OAC performers Jacob Burk (Bowling Green) and Tyler Thompson (Broadview Heights/Brecksville-Broadview Heights).

Burk set the school-record in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 4:47.78 as he placed fifth. Thompson set the school-record and in the 200-yard individual medley in a time of 1:58.66 as he placed 11th.

In addition to Burk and Thompson, freshman freestyle Kevin Hartenstein (Hermitage, Pa. / Hickory) placed 15th in the 500-yard freestyle in a time of 5:05.03. Hartenstein swam a career-best time in the prelims of 5:01.24.

BW is back in action on Friday, February 19 for the second day of competition. Preliminary events begin at 10 a.m. and the finals are slated for at 6 p.m.  The final day of competition is on Saturday, February 29 with the prelims at 10 a.m. and the finals at 5:30 p.m.
