BW Men's Swim Team Beats Defiance

BEREA, Ohio --  The Baldwin Wallace University men's swim team defeated Ohio Athletic Conference opponent Defiance College in the BW Natatorium in the Lou Higgins Center.

The Yellow Jacket men (4-8, 1-4 OAC) beat the Defiance (2-11, 0-6 OAC), 123-22.

Leading the way for the men were led by sophomore All-OAC swimmer Jacob Burk (Bowling Green) and junior Nathan Onchuck (Darien. Ill./ Hisdale South) who each won two events individually and swam on a winning relay team. In addition, junior Justin Allison (Napoleon) won twice.

won the 1,000-yard freestyle in 10:56.76 and the mixed 200-yard free in 2:18.38 and swam on the winning 200-yard medley relay team in 1:49.16. He was joined on that winning relay team by freshmen Tyler Thompson (Broadview Heights/ Brecksville-Broadview Hts.), Da'Qeayce Swain (Dayton/ David H. Ponitz) and senior Bryan Gerber (Sagamore Hills/ Nordonia). Onchuck won the 200-yard individual medley in 2:14.15 and the 100-yard backstroke in 1:00.94 and swam on the winning 200-yard mixed free relay team in 1:44.54. He was joined on the 200 mixed relay squad by junior All-OAC swimmer Chandler Ashbaugh (Napoleon), junior Sean Rudolph Jr. (Warrensville Heights) and junior Contessa Elliott (Ypsilanti, Mich./ Ypsilanti). Allison won the 50-yard free in 23.15 seconds and the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:05.15.

The BW swimmers and divers are back in action tomorrow, Saturday, January 31, when the Yellow Jackets host Cleveland cross-town and non-league rival Case Western Reserve University on Seniors' & Parents' Day at 1 p.m.
