Four Baseball Players Earn All-Mideast Region Honors

BEREA, Ohio – Four Baldwin Wallace University baseball student-athletes have landed on a 2018 All-Mideast Region team.

Sophomore All-Ohio Athletic Conference left fielder Dudley Taw (Sheffield Lake/Brookside), senior All-OAC right fielder Alex Marcum (Granville) and senior All-OAC left-handed pitcher Evan Lovick (Mentor) were tabbed to both the D3baseball.com and American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA)/Rawlings All-Mideast Region teams. Junior All-OAC right-hander Danny Cody (Medina/Brecksville-Broadview Heights) landed on the ABCA/Rawlings All-Mideast Region third team.

Taw earns his first two All-Region honors after being named to the ABCA first team and the D3baseball second team. He is coming off a stellar sophomore campaign where he also earned his first career All-OAC honor. The sophomore posted career-best numbers with a .385 batting average, a .467 on-base percentage and a team-high .714 slugging percentage. Taw led the team with 14 home runs, 16 doubles and was second on the squad with 59 runs batted in (RBIs). He also tied a school record with four stolen bases in a single game. In his two-year career, Taw has posted a batting average of .356, an on-base percentage of .440 and a slugging percentage of .648 with 17 doubles, two triples, 14 home runs, 65 RBIs and 54 runs scored.

Marcum also garners his first two All-Mideast Region accolades, landing on the second team for both D3baseball and the ABCA, after his second consecutive All-OAC selection this spring. This season, he had a .328 batting average, a .403 on-base percentage and a career-high .590 slugging percentage. Marcum tallied 11 doubles, two triples and career highs of 12 home runs, 60 RBIs and 64 runs scored. The senior made his way into the record books by setting the single-season RBI record with 60. Marcum finishes his career with a batting average of .316, an on-base percentage of .388 and a slugging percentage of .495 with 34 doubles, four triples, 18 home runs, 141 RBIs and 108 runs scored.

Lovick earns his first D3baseball.com All-Region selection and third consecutive ABCA/Rawlings All-Mideast Region honor, landing on both organizations' third team. Once again, the senior tied the BW single-season record with eight wins on the season, posting an 8-2 record. Lovick threw a career-high 86.2 innings, recorded a career-best 55 strikeouts and finished the year with a 3.32 earned run average (ERA). He set the school record when he recorded his 24th career victory in the 2018 OAC Tournament. For his career, Lovick pitched 254.1 innings for a 24-6 overall record with 158 strikeouts and a 2.80 ERA.

Cody lands on the ABCA/Rawlings All-Mideast Region third team after his first All-OAC honor. The junior had a standout season with a 7-3 record, throwing a career-high 83.1 innings. Cody led the team and the Ohio Athletic Conference with a career-high and school-record 100 strikeouts, finishing the season with a 3.13 ERA and a batting average against of .245. For his career, Cody has thrown 141.1 innings with 153 strikeouts and a 4.20 ERA.  

BW finished the 2018 season with a school-record 33 victories, winning the program's first OAC Tournament title since 1985. The Yellow Jackets advanced to the NCAA Division III Tournament for the seventh time in school history and finished the New York Regional with a 2-2 record.
