AUSTIN, Texas – Baldwin Wallace University senior All-Ohio Athletic Conference second baseman Spencer Badia (Bellaire) has been selected as the Google Cloud Academic All-America of the Year, headlining the Academic All-America Division III Baseball Team.

A second-team All-America selection last year, Badia is the Yellow Jackets' first Academic All-America of the Year honoree since Brendan Toughey in 2013 and the fifth overall. The senior is also the 13th different baseball student-athlete to be named an Academic All-American, totaling 15 honors in all. Badia is just one of three OAC baseball student-athletes on this year's team and the only one to appear on the first team.

"We are extremely pleased for Spencer and his family," said eighth-year Head Coach Brian Harrison. "He has been a model of consistency in terms of baseball and a model student for our younger players to follow and emulate. Spencer is a young man who certainly has his priorities in the right place and will be extremely successful in all of his future endeavors, and we wish him well."

Badia graduated with a perfect 4.0 cumulative grade point average in pre-physical therapy. He was a Dean's List student, a Jacket Scholar, a member of the Alpha Chi Lambda and Chi Alpha Sigma honor societies, a three-time Academic All-OAC selection, a three-time recipient of the Guy Fisher Award for academic excellence, a two-time winner of the BW Academic Excellence Award for the highest GPA on the baseball team, the 2017-18 BW Male Clyde Lamb Award winner and the recipient of the prestigious Milton T. Baldwin Award, given to the top student of the graduating class.

This season, Badia had a career-best .358 batting average, a career-high .444 on-base percentage and a .507 slugging percentage. He was third on the team with five home runs and a career-best 41 runs batted in (RBIs). Badia was named the 2018 OAC Tournament Co-Most Valuable Player along with his selection to the All-Tournament Team.

Badia finished his career with a .320 batting average, a .423 on-base percentage and a .488 slugging percentage with 28 doubles, three triples, 16 home runs, 104 RBIs and 112 runs scored. He helped the Yellow Jackets compile a 109-63 four-year record with a .624 winning percentage, advance to two NCAA Division III regional tournaments (2015 and 2018), capture an OAC Tournament title (2018) and advance to another OAC Tournament Championship Game (2016).

BW's 110 all-time Academic All-Americans is more than any Division III college or university in the OAC or the state of Ohio and ranks 12th nationally in Division III.
