PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. – The Baldwin Wallace University baseball team defeated Moravian (Pa.) College for the second time during the Snowbird Classic, this time by a 7-5 score at the North Charlotte Regional Park #10.

Moravian (3-6) got out to an early lead with two runs in the top of the first inning. BW (8-1) was able to cut the lead in half in the bottom of the first inning when senior All-Ohio Athletic Conference infielder Spencer Badia (Bellaire) hit a sacrifice fly to score senior outfielder Chase Knodle (Poland/Seminary). However, the Greyhounds were just able to do the little things right and added three runs in the top of the fourth inning for a 5-1 lead.

After two walk offs on the trip alone, the Yellow Jackets were not daunted by the task of having to make another comeback. Senior All-OAC catcher Trent Kaltenbach (Plain City/Jonathan Alder) hit an infield single to score Badia in the bottom of the fifth inning while Marcum got things going with a triple in the bottom of the sixth inning to score freshman utility player Alex Ludwick (Brunswick/Padua Franciscan). Marcum then came around to score on a passed ball, bringing the Yellow Jackets within one run. Just a few batters later, Kaltenbach brought Badia home on another infield RBI single to tie the game at 5-5 and a second passed ball allowed sophomore infielder Jacob Bonner (Akron/Archbishop Hoban) to score to take the lead. BW added one more run in the bottom of the seventh while the pitching staff shut down Moravian for the 7-5 final.

Marcum led the Yellow Jackets at the plate with three hits, including the triple that scored Ludwick in that four-run sixth inning. Knodle, Badia, Bonner, Kaltenbach and sophomore outfielder Dudley Taw (Sheffield Lake/Brookside) each added two hits as well.

Junior right-handed pitcher Eric Baumgart (Mundelein, Ill./Carmel Catholic) got the nod and threw two innings, giving up three hits, two walks, two runs and one earned run. Sophomore right-handed pitcher Max Adams (Massillon/Washington) got the win as he threw two scoreless innings, only allowing two hits, while sophomore left-handed pitcher Michael Hubert (Cincinnati/Oak Hills) earned the two-inning save, notching three strikeouts and only giving up one hit.

BW will be back in action on Thursday, March 8, when it travels to Fort Myers, Florida, to take on Alvernia (Pa.) University in the Gene Cusic Collegiate Classic at 12 p.m. at the Lee County Player Development Complex.
