BEREA, Ohio – Despite a change in date and location, the Baldwin Wallace University baseball team did not miss a beat in a 11-2 non-conference victory over Allegheny (Pa.) College on Fisher Field.

The two teams were originally supposed to play on Wednesday, March 28, at Allegheny before the game got moved up.

BW (15-4, 1-1 Ohio Athletic Conference) exploded for five runs in the bottom of the first inning, chasing the Allegheny (5-10) pitcher before he could even record an out. After a lead-off walk and a stolen base from senior outfielder Chase Knodle (Poland/Seminary), sophomore outfielder Dudley Taw (Sheffield Lake/Brookside) doubled to left field to score the first run. Then senior All-OAC outfielder Alex Marcum (Granville) stepped to the plate and drilled his OAC-leading fifth home run of the season, a two-run shot, to give BW a 3-0 lead. Three batters later, junior first baseman Philip Wells (Buffalo, N.Y./St. Joseph's Collegiate) roped a double to left center to score two more runs, extending his hitting streak to four games.

The Yellow Jackets just kept swinging as they added another run in the second and three in the third for a 9-0 lead before the Gators finally found their way on to the scoreboard with two runs in the fifth inning. BW rounded out the scoring with a run each in the fifth and the eighth innings.

Taw led the way with a career performance at the plate as he went 5-for-5 with two doubles, three runs scored and four runs batted in while Marcum added three hits and three RBIs of his own.

Freshman infielder/pitcher Nick Smith (Mentor) got the nod and picked up his second win of the season with three scoreless innings, only allowing one hit and recording four strikeouts. Senior pitcher Brandon Wysong (Bradford), junior pitcher Jack Raines (Akron/Archbishop Hoban) and sophomore pitcher Michael Hubert (Cincinnati/Oak Hills) each pitched in relief and combined for four scoreless and hitless innings while sophomore pitcher Max Adams (Massillon/Washington) allowed the only two Allegheny runs in his two innings of work.

BW will return to OAC action on Friday, March 30, when the Yellow Jackets host the University at Mount Union for a doubleheader on Fisher Field. First pitch is at 1 p.m. while the second game is slated to start at approximately 4 p.m.
