Buckhannon Garners First Career OAC Women’s Field Athlete of the Week Accolade

AUSTINTOWN, Ohio – Baldwin Wallace University sophomore All-Ohio Athletic Conference thrower Brooke Buckhannon (Collins/Western Reserve) has been named OAC Women's Field Athlete of the Week for the first time in her career.

Buckhannon earns her first weekly honor after finishing as the top Division III thrower at the John Homon Open, hosted by the University of Mount Union. She had career-best marks of 42 feet, 2.25 inches in the shot put and 135'8" in the discus for a pair of runner-up finishes to an athlete from NCAA Division II school Ashland University. Buckhannon also achieved her second-best mark of 155'7" in the hammer throw, finishing behind athletes from Ashland and Walsh University. Her career-best discus and shot put marks currently rank 21st and 24th in Division III, respectively, while she also holds a top-25 mark in the hammer throw.

During her freshman outdoor campaign, Buckhannon posted season-best and career-best marks of 38'5.5" in shot put, 132'2" in discus and 143'0" in hammer. She is coming off an indoor season which saw her earn her first two All-OAC honors in the shot put and the weight throw on her way to being selected as Co-Field Athlete of the Year.

Buckhannon and the Yellow Jackets will compete at the All-Ohio Outdoor Championships, hosted by Ohio Wesleyan University, on Saturday, April 14 on the George Gauthier Track.
