AUSTINTOWN, Ohio – Baldwin Wallace University sophomore All-Ohio Athletic Conference thrower Brooke Buckhannon (Collins/Western Reserve) has been named OAC Women's Field Athlete of the Week for the second consecutive week.
Buckhannon earns her second career weekly honor after leading the Yellow Jackets to a fifth place finish at the All-Ohio Outdoor Championships, hosted by Ohio Wesleyan University. She earned her first career All-Ohio honor with a runner-up finish in the hammer throw, hitting a mark of 165 feet, 7 inches, improving on her previous career best by almost 10 feet. Buckhannon also had seventh- and eighth-place finishes in the shot put and the discus with marks of 37'8.75" and 127'8". Her career-best hammer mark puts her 17th in Division III nationally.
Last week, Buckhannon earned her first weekly honor after finishing as the top Division III thrower at the John Homon Open, hosted by the University of Mount Union. She had career-best marks of 42 feet, 2.25 inches in the shot put and 135'8" in the discus for a pair of runner-up finishes to an athlete from NCAA Division II school Ashland University.
Buckhannon and the Yellow Jackets will host the 49th Annual Sparky Adams Invitational on Saturday, April 21. Field events will begin at 11 a.m. while running events will start at approximately 12 p.m.
