NEW ORLEANS – Three Baldwin Wallace University women's track and field student-athletes have been honored by the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCA) as All-Academic Individuals.
BW had three of the 608 student-athletes honored in senior College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-American jumper Erin Kasper (Amherst/Marion Steele), senior All-Ohio Athletic Conference thrower Kasey Clouse (Norwalk/Western Reserve) and sophomore distance runner Kelly Brennan (Akron/Walsh Jesuit).
To qualify for the USTFCCA All-Academic honors, the student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative GPA of 3.25 or higher and must have met at least one of the follow athletic standards:
- Competed in an NCAA Indoor or Outdoor Championship
- Finished the regular season ranked in the national top-50 in an individual event or ranked in the national top-35 in a relay event on of the official NCAA Descending Order List
"We are very proud of Erin, Kasey and Kelley," stated Coordinator of Cross Country/Track & Field and Head Track & Field Coach Matthew Cole. "They work extremely hard in the class room as well as in their own events to earn this honor."
Kasper, who was one of 29 honorees with a 4.0 grade point, graduated Summa Cum Laude this spring with a Bachelor of Arts in exercise science. She was an NCAA Division III Elite 90 finalist, Bonnie Raye Scholar Athlete Award recipient and a three-time Academic All-OAC selection. Kasper, a USTFCCCA All-Great Lakes Region selection both indoors and outdoors, placed 10th at the outdoor championships and was the OAC Champion in the high jump. She was a Dean's List student, a Jacket Scholar and a member of Alpha Lambda, Dayton C. Miller and Chi Sigma Alpha honoraries. As a junior and senior, Kasper earned the BW Academic Excellence Award for the highest GPA on the team.
Clouse earns her second straight All-Academic selection as carried a 3.418 grade point average in sociology. She was a four-time All-OAC outdoor performer and the 2016 OAC Champion in discus. Clouse finished the outdoor season ranked 49th in Division III with a career-best mark of 45'5.25 in the shot put. She was a Dean's List student and a member of the Chi Sigma Alpha Honor Society. Clouse earned her first USTFCCA All-Great Lakes Region honor this spring in the discus.
Brennan, a USTFCCCA All-Great Lakes Region indoors selection in 800-meter run and the 1-mile run, carries a 3.980 grade point average in accounting and finance. She is a Dean's List student, a Jacket Scholar and a member of the Alpha Lambda and Chi Sigma Alpha honoraries. Brennan, the All-Ohio outdoor champion in the 1,500-meter run, set the school-record in the 800-meter run this spring with a time of 2:12.02. She is a two-time All-OAC outdoor performer and a two-time All-OAC performer in cross country. Brennan earned the Academic Excellence Award this fall for the highest GPA on the cross country team.
The Yellow Jackets finished the 2016-17 campaign sixth at the OAC Cross Country Championships and fifth at both the OAC Indoor and Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
