Women's Track and Field Team Places Third at OAC North Split to Open 2017

ADA, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University women's indoor track and field team opened the 2017 season at the Ohio Athletic Conference North Split Meet hosted by the Ohio Northern University in the ONU Sports Center.

The OAC North Split meet consists of BW and Ohio Northern along with the University of Mount Union, Heidelberg University and John Carroll University.  The OAC's other five teams – Capital University, Marietta College, Muskingum University, Otterbein University and Wilmington College are competing at the OAC South Split Meet hosted by Marietta.

The Yellow Jackets finished third of five teams with 93.5 points. The University of Mount Union won the meet with 194 points.

BW was led by, junior All-OAC thrower Kasey Clouse (Norwalk/Western Reserve), senior All-American Erin Kasper (Amherst/Marion Steele) and sophomore distance runner Kelly Brennan (Akron/Walsh Jesuit). Clouse won the weight throw with a mark of 51'2.25'' and finished second in the shot put with a throw of 41' 1.5''. Kasper won the high jump with a 5'5'' leap and finished fifth in the long jump with a leap of 16'4.25''. Brennan won the 5,000-meter run with a time of 19:18.11 and placed fourth in the mile with a time of 5:23.88.

In addition, junior thrower Madeline Ziccardi (Cuyahoga Falls) finished in third in the shot put and with a career-best mark of 39' 1.75'' and fifth in the weight throw with a career-best throw of 44' 2.5''. Senior hurdler Lyndsey Armstrong (Astubula/Geneva) finished second in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.46 seconds, freshman distance runner Bella Pendola (Warsaw/River View) placed second in the 5,000-meter with a time of 19:21.05, junior jumper Rachel Tucker (Canton/McKinley) finished third in the triple jump with a mark of 32'9.75'' and freshman thrower Brooke Buckhannon (Collins/Western Reserve) finished fifth in the shot put with a mark of 38'3.5''.

In relay action, freshmen distance runners Claire Makowski (Bethel Park, Pa.), Annie Quisno (Port Clinton/Oak Harbor), Katie Fowler (Mount Vernon) and Pendola won the distance medley in a time of 13:35.77.

The Yellow Jackets are back in action on Friday, January 27 when they host the Dr. William Taraschke Classic on the Harrison Dillard Track inside the Lou Higgins Center Fieldhouse at 4 p.m.
