BEREA, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University women's soccer team froze Muskingum University in a 6-0 shutout in a chilly Ohio Athletic Conference game inside George Finnie Stadium.

BW (8-5-1, 2-3 OAC) wasted no time putting Muskingum (5-9, 0-5 OAC) under pressure as senior three-time All-OAC and Academic All-OAC forward Rachel Bender (Massillon/Jackson) let off a pass to sophomore midfielder Alex Guido (Macomb, Mich./Eisenhower) who sank it deep into the right corner of the net, marking Guido's third goal of the season in just the third minute of action. The Yellow Jackets continued to test the Fighting Muskies' goalkeeper as Bender and Guido combined for four shots that were all saved. The two finally connected in the 24th minute, this time with Guido assisting Bender for a 2-0 BW lead. Bender also added an unassisted goal in the 36th minute while sophomore forward Kortney Marzenski (Parma/Valley Forge) finished off the half with her second goal of the season after her initial shot rebounded off the goalie.

The Yellow Jackets maintained the focus and the energy level as they kept the momentum going in the second half, taking a 5-0 lead when Bender assisted sophomore midfielder Kayla Webb (Brunswick) in the 51st minute. Bender completed her fifth career hat trick and first of this season in the 66th minute when she rifled a shot off the crossbar, over the goalie's head and back into the net. With the hat trick, the senior also tied a single-game career high with her eight points and finished off the night's scoring.

In the net, junior Academic All-OAC goalkeeper Emma Bruno (Pittsburgh, Pa./Bethel Park) registered her sixth win of the season and third shutout, saving all three shots on goal she faced. The Yellow Jackets took a season-high 42 shots on the night to Muskingum's eight and 22 shots on goal compared to just three for the Fighting Muskies.

BW will host OAC and crosstown rival John Carroll University on Wednesday, Oct. 17, at 7 p.m. inside George Finnie Stadium.
