Women’s Lacrosse Drops OAC Road Game to Marietta

MARIETTA, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University women's lacrosse team faced Marietta College for an Ohio Athletic Conference matchup on the Marietta field. A fourth quarter surge by the Pioneers pushed them past the Yellow Jackets by a 10-8 final score. 

BW (3-12, 1-5 OAC) was led by senior All-OAC midfielder Kaitlyn Hradek (Olmsted Township/Olmsted Falls) as she totaled a team-high three goals, four caused turnovers, three draw controls, and two ground balls. Sophomore midfielder Rennick Mellon (Akron/Archbishop Hoban) scored two goals on the day, and had four draw controls.

Freshman goalkeeper Caroline Potteiger (Grand Rapids, Mich./East Grand Rapids) notched seven saves in the contest.

Marietta (9-6, 3-3 OAC) was led by freshman attack Mallory Wiles and junior attack Hope Adams as they each totaled four goals.

First Quarter

  • 6:49 – BW struck first with a goal by Hradek, assisted by senior Academic All-OAC attack Sophia Leuma (Bloomington, Minn./Thomas Jefferson)
  • 2:24 – The Pioneers tallied a goal by Wiles
  • 1:58 – The Yellow Jackets took the early 2-1 lead after the first with a goal by junior Academic All-OAC attack Lexy Conway (Wooster)

Second Quarter

  • 11:11 – Marietta's Adams notched the first goal of the second
  • 8:54 – Yellow Jackets' sophomore attack/midfielder Lily Tope (Delaware/Hayes) earned a goal, assisted by junior All-OAC midfielder Deanna Loukas (Tuckahoe, N.Y./)
  • 3:37 – The Pioneers tied things up going into halftime with a goal by Adams (3-3) 

Third Quarter

  • 13:37 – Marietta's Wiles notched a goal
  • 3:33 – Hradek scored another, assisted by Loukas, keeping things even going into the fourth (4-4) 

Fourth Quarter

  • 14:27 – The Yellow Jackets got things started in the high-scoring fourth quarter with a goal by Mellon, her fourth goal on the year
  • 13:49 & 11:02 – Marietta scored back-to-back goals to earn the 6-5 advantage over BW with goals by Wiles and Adams
  • 9:24 – BW made things even at 6-6 with a goal by Hradek
  • 8:28, 7:35, & 3:19 – The Pioneers held the Yellow Jackets scoreless for nearly eight minutes while tallying three goals (Downard, Wiles, & Adams) to grab the late 9-6 advantage
  • 1:49 – The Yellow Jackets notched a goal late to bring the game within one, with a goal by Mellon (9-7 MAR)
  • 0:44 – The Pioneers tallied a goal by Verona to create some separation
  • 0:23 – BW scored a last-chance goal by Loukas, but the Yellow Jackets weren't able to close the gap as Marietta claimed the 10-8 OAC victory 

The Yellow Jackets are back in action on Wednesday, April 26th as the team hosts University of Mount Union for the Morgan's Message game. The OAC contest and regular season finale will start at 7:00 p.m. on the Tressel Field inside of the George Finnie Stadium.
