Women’s Lacrosse Comeback Not Enough, Falls to Centre (Ky.)

DANVILLE, Ky. – The Baldwin Wallace University women's lacrosse team continued its spring break trip facing non-conference opponent Centre (Ky.) College inside of the Farris Stadium. Despite outscoring the Colonels 9-5 in the second half, BW dropping the contest by a 14-13 final score.

BW (1-4) was led by junior All-Ohio Athletic Conference midfielder Deanna Loukas (Tuckahoe, N.Y./Eastchester) as she notched four goals, six draw controls, five ground balls, and four caused turnovers. Sophomore attack/midfielder Lily Tope (Delaware/Hayes) totaled three goals and an assist while tallying two draw controls, a caused turnover, and a ground ball.

Centre (3-2) was led by sophomore attack Haley Rice as she tallied four goals and an assist, for a game-high five points, and added two ground balls and two draw controls.

First Quarter

  • 13:23, 9:57, & 8:21 - Centre got on the board first with three straight goals, getting out to a substantial early lead
  • 7:01 – BW's Loukas got the Yellow Jackets on the board with a goal, assisted by junior Academic All-OAC attack Lexy Conway (Wooster)
  • 6:38 & 5:25 – The Colonels extended the lead to 5-1 after back-to-back goals
  • 4:45 – The Yellow Jackets' Conway scored unassisted before the Colonels immediately responded with a goal (4:30) to head to the second quarter with a 6-2 lead.

Second Quarter

  • 14:38 – BW tried to gain traction, notching the first goal of the second by Tope (unassisted)
  • 13:16 – Centre's Treinen tallied a goal to keep the lead at four
  • 9:04 – Senior Academic All-OAC attack Sophia Leuma (Bloomington, Minn./Thomas Jefferson) posted an unassisted goal
  • 6:21 & :10 – The Colonels notched two goals before the end of the first half, leading 9-4 at the break

Third Quarter

  • BW tallied two goals by sophomore midfielder Taylor Miklos (Brunswick) and Loukas while the Colonels tallied three goals (12-6)
  • 6:31 – Senior All-OAC midfielder Kaitlyn Hradek (Olmsted Falls/Olmsted Township) got on the board with a free position shot to put some life back into BW
  • 4:10 & 3:43 – Back-to-back goals by Loukas (one assisted by Tope) brought the game within three goals
  • 2:38 – Centre scored once more before the fourth quarter, leading 13-9

Fourth Quarter

  • 13:23, 8:11, 4:15 – The Yellow Jackets held the Colonels scoreless for 11:52 to start the fourth quarter, tallying three goals by Tope, sophomore attack Lauren Getchey (Perrysburg), and freshman attack Carley House (Hilliard/Darby) to bring the game within one
  • 3:08 – Centre tallied a much-needed goal as the Yellow Jackets were closing in, putting the Colonels up two
  • 1:27 – The Yellow Jackets notched a late goal (by Tope) but it wasn't enough as BW dropped the non-conference match by a 14-13 score 

BW is back on the field on Wednesday, March 15 when the team faces Allegheny (Pa.) College for a non-conference matchup on the Robertson Blue Turf. The game is set to begin at 6:00 p.m.
