Garrett Notches First OAC Player of the Week Honor

AUSTINTOWN, Ohio – Baldwin Wallace University women's basketball senior guard Gabby Garrett (Columbus/Bishop Watterson) has been named the Ohio Athletic Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week. The award marks the first such honor of her career.

Garrett became the first Yellow Jackets women's basketball player to win the honor since Kara Marshall did on December 23rd, 2019. Garrett helped lead the Yellow Jackets to two wins in a home-and-home series against the University of Mount Union, giving BW its sixth straight season opening victory.

Garrett set a career-high in single-game points with 22 in game one on Friday night and then matched it with 22 points the following game. Over that stretch, Garrett went 19-for-20 from the free throw line, including falling just one free throw shy of tying a program record for makes in a single game. The senior also notched seven rebounds, four steals and three assists over the weekend series against the Purple Raiders, while averaging 23.0 minutes per game.

After coming off the bench for all but one game of her career, Garrett has stepped into a starting role and flourished. Garrett's back-to-back 20-point games are the first in Yellow Jackets history since Amanda Schroeder delivered three 20-point performances in a row from December 19, 2010 to January 5, 2011.

The Yellow Jackets will return to action on Friday, January 29 for the second home game in a row, this time against Marietta College. The Yellow Jackets will tip off the front end of the home-and-home series at Ursprung Gymnasium at 7:00 p.m.
