Women's Basketball Sweeps Capital With Saturday Victory

BEREA, Ohio – Baldwin Wallace University's women's basketball team kept their win streak intact, defeating Capital University 75-49 on Saturday night. With the win, the Yellow Jackets extended their win streak against Capital to 11 games in a row.

With the win, the Yellow Jackets (5-3, 5-3 Ohio Athletic Conference) tallied their second straight victory and took over possession of second place in the OAC. Capital (2-4, 2-4 OAC) suffered their second straight loss and lost another game on their all-time series lead, falling to a 50-36 lead over the Yellow Jackets.

Junior Lilly Edwards (Dublin/Coffman) continued her dominant season, notching a career-high 26 points, 10 rebounds and two assists. Edwards tallied her 10th career double-double in the victory. Junior Sydney Snyder (Kirtland) recorded 14 points, two shy of a career-high, along with four three-pointers, five rebounds and an assist.

Right out of the gate, the Yellow Jackets were scoring from all over the floor. A 25-10 first quarter allowed the Yellow Jackets to build a very comfortable lead from the get go. After a traditional Edwards game in the first of the home-and-home series, she came out firing in the finale, scoring 10 points in the first quarter alone.

Kelsey George (Centerville) built on her career-high from the night before, notching six points in the quarter the second quarter to supplement the Yellow Jackets offense. Capital was able to secure a 10-9 victory in the quarter but the Yellow Jackets maintained a 34-20 lead at the halftime.

The good vibes continued for the Yellow Jackets, who started the third quarter on a 9-2 run, led by four more points from Edwards. The Yellow Jackets imposed their will on Capital, recording 21 points and winning the quarter 21-17.

Edwards continued her incredible night and allowed the Jackets to keep their hot start intact. Edwards tallied six points in the fourth quarter to keep BW ahead and allow them to secure their second straight win. The Yellow Jacket defense proved suffocating the entire game, holding Capital to a 25.5% field goal percentage.

The Yellow Jackets will return to action on Friday, February 19 to begin a two-game, home-and-home set against Heidelberg University. The Yellow Jackets will begin with a road matchup in Tiffin, Ohio at 7:00 p.m.
