ADA, Ohio –The Baldwin Wallace University women's basketball was defeated by sixth-nationally ranked and Ohio Athletic Conference leader Ohio Northern University by a final score of 68-43 in the ONU Sports Center.
BW (16-4, 9-4 OAC) was led by senior All-OAC and Academic All-OAC point guard Mackenzie Colombo (Strasburg) and freshman guard Tiffany Bentler (North Canton/Hoover) as each scored nine points. Freshman guard Kara Marshall (Copley/Akron Archbishop Hoban) chipped in a career-high tying seven points.
Ohio Northern (20-0, 13-0 OAC), who has won five of the last five meetings versus Yellow Jackets, had two players score in double figures led by junior All-OAC forward Amy Bullimore as she recorded a double-double with a game-high 18 points and a game-best 10 rebounds. Senior All-OAC guard Britt Lauck tallied 16 points.
After a three-pointer to open the game by junior Academic All-OAC guard Katie Smith (Fairview Park/Fairview) for BW, the Polar Bears went on a 7-0 run to take the 7-3 advantage on layup by Lauck at the 7:11 mark. The Yellow Jackets fought back with a 5-2 run to cut the lead down to 9-8 when senior All-OAC forward Clara Lemmon (Canton/Louisville) buried a three-pointer at 6:34. BW cut the lead down to three-points at 18-15 when Colombo knocked down a jumper with 11 seconds left in the opening quarter.
The Yellow Jackets opened the second stanza on a 9-6 run to tie the game at 24-24 when sophomore guard Hannah Fecht (Hilliard/Davidson) hit a pair from the charity stripe at the 3:51 mark. Ohio Northern closed out the opening half on an 8-2 run, including a 6-0 push after the game was tied at 26-26 with 2:59 left in the second quarter. The Polar Bears led 32-26 at the intermission.
Ohio Northern opened the third quarter on a 16-0 run to take a 48-26 lead when junior guard Lindsay Black split a pair of free throws with 32 seconds left in the period. BW got its lone points of the third quarter when Bentler hit a pair of free throws with 15 seconds remaining but trailed 48-28.
The Yellow Jackets cut the lead down to 56-37 when Marshall scored on a layup at 3:51 of the fourth quarter. The Polar Bears closed the game on an 12-6 run.
