BW Women's Cross Country Team Second and Men Fifth at the OAC Championship Meet; Hlavin Wins Title

BEREA, OHIO - The Baldwin Wallace University women's cross country team placed second and the men finished fifth today (Saturday, November 1, 2008) at the Ohio Athletic Conference Championship Meet hosted by Marietta College in Marietta, Ohio. Highlighting the meet for the Yellow Jackets were the women's duo of junior D'Arcy Hlavin (Berea) and senior Ashley Scullion (Kentwood, Mich./ East Kentwood) who placed first and second individually.

Hlavin became the 12th Yellow Jacket women's runner to win an individual title in the 24 years that the OAC has sponsored women's championship events.  Hlavin placed first of 117 runners with a time of 23:10.18 on the 6K course.  Finishing close behind and in second place was Scullion with a time of 23:14.60.

The Yellow Jacket women had 65 points and the men had 145 points.

In addition to Hlavin and Scullion, sophomore Karin Coyne (Columbia Station/Columbia) placed 11th and earned All-OAC honors with a time of 23:59.10.  Rounding out the top five for the women were sophomoresKim Chinn (Zanesville/ West Muskingum) and Krysten Kovach (North Royalton/ Parma Padua Franciscan) as they placed 24th and 27th, respectively.  Chinn finished in 24:37.48 and Kovach in 24:42.68 overall.

Individually for the men, senior Derek Hill (Fremont/ Ross) placed 13th of 141 runners with a time of 26:55.93 and earned All-OAC accolades. Senior Nate Bowen (Fremont/ Ross) crossed the finish line in 27:34.96 for 26th place and was followed by juniors Jeff Bonezzi (Medina/ Senior)Jimmy Eberts (North Canton/ Hoover) and Mark Buhoveckey (Brunswick/Parma Padua Franciscan) to round out the top five by finishing 32nd, 37th and 41st respectively.  Bonezzi finished in a time of 27:46.86, Eberts recorded a time of 27:53.07 and Buhoveckey crossed the finish line in at 28:06.29.
