Men's Swimming and Diving Falls to Case Western Reserve on Seniors' Day

BEREA, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University men's and women's swimming and diving teams closed out regular season portion of its schedule as both were defeated by cross-town rival Case Western Reserve University in the BW Natatorium inside the Lou Higgins Center.

The BW men (4-8) fell to Case Western Reserve by a final score of 199-98. 

The Yellow Jackets, who had their Seniors' and Parents' Day prior to the meet, were led by junior All-American Tyler Thompson (Broadview Heights/Brecksville-Broadview Heights) and sophomore diver Cameron O'Brien (Toledo/Northview) as each won a pair of events. Thompson won the 50-yard breaststroke and the 100-yard breaststroke in times of 27.29 and 1:00.47. O'Brien won both the 1-meter diving events with 144.15 points in the five-dive event and a career-best 305.70 points in the six-dive event.

In addition, freshman freestyler Greg Shaw (Colorado Springs, Colo./Manitou Springs) placed second in the 50-yard butterfly, the 100-yard butterfly and the 100-yard freestyle Shaw had times of 24.32 in the 50-fly, 52.87 in the 100-fly and 49.68 in the 100-free. Sophomore stroker Tyler Allison (Napoleon) was the runner-up in the 50-yard backstroke and placed third in the 100-yard backstroke.  Allison finished with a time of 27.67 in the 50-back and a time of 1:00.08 in the 100-back.

Also, senior All-OAC performer Jacob Burk (Bowling Green) finished third in the 500-yard freestyle and the 1,650-yard freestyle.  Burk had times of 5:08.64 in the 500-free and 17:37.89 in the 1650-free. Senior diver Jon Levin (Olmsted Falls) was the runner-up in the five-dive 1-meter event with 136.15 points. Sophomore freestyler John Beyer (Columbus/Centennial) was third in the 50-yard freestyle in a time of 23.57.  Sophomore freestyler Kevin Hartenstein (Hermitage, Pa./Hickory) placed third in the 200-yard freestyle in a time of 1:55.74.  Freshman freestyler Austin Lockhart (Olmsted Falls) was third in the 100-yard butterfly and the 100-yard individual medley.  Lockhart had in a time of 56.07 in the 100-fly and 1:00.67 in the 100-IM.

In relay action, the 200-yard medley quad of AllisonThompsonShaw and freshman Lockhart placed second in a season-best time of 1:40.90.

BW is back in action on February 16-18 when it travels to Akron to compete in the three-day OAC Swimming and Diving Championships hosted by the University of Mount Union in the Ocasek Natatorium on the campus of the University of Akron.  Preliminary action is slated for 11 am on Thursday and at 10 am on Friday and Saturday.   Finals will be contested each night with action scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. on Thursday and Friday with a 5:30 p.m. start on Saturday.
