BW Men's Lacrosse Falls To Trine (Ind.)

ANGOLA, IND. – Freshman attack Vinny Carson (Cleveland/Benedictine) scored two goals and recorded a pair of assists, but the Baldwin Wallace University men's lacrosse team fell to Trine (Ind.) University, 15-5,  at Fred Zollner Stadium.

The loss drops the Yellow Jackets to 3-2 and ends their two-game winning streak.  Trine improves to 3-4.

Carson's four points upped his season total to a team-high-tying 10 goals and team-best 14 assists, respectively.  He has also scored at least one goal in all five of BW's games and has registered both a goal and an assist in three straight games.

Freshman midfielder John Grau (Cleveland Heights/Benedictine) collected a team-high five ground balls.

Senior Dalton Madsen led the Thunder with four goals and one assist for a game-high-tying five points.  Freshman Chris Ward scored three goals and registered one assist, and sophomore Patrick Walker scored two goals and assisted on a game-high three others.

Walker scored two goals early in the first quarter and Madsen added another to give Trine a 3-0 lead.

Carson answered by scoring an unassisted goal at the 8:35 mark to cut BW's deficit to 3-1.

The Thunder closed the first period on a 6-0 run and scored three unanswered goals in the second stanza and took a 12-1 lead into halftime.

The Yellow Jackets held Trine scoreless for the first nine minutes of the third quarter before Ward broke the drought at the 3:52 mark with his third goal of the game.

BW ended an 11-0 Thunder run that spanned three quarters when freshman attack Andrew Madden (Lakewood/St. Edward) assisted Carson on his second goal of the game at 6:49 of the fourth quarter.

Following a goal by Trine freshman George Youpel at 5:33, the Jackets finished the game on a 3-0 run on goals by senior midfielder Kyle Sepesy (Parma/St. Ignatius), sophomore midfielder Luke Riemenschneider (Rocky River), and freshman attack Jeff Leiseberg (Cleveland/Benedictine).  Carson contributed two assists during the game-ending run.

Trine outshot BW, 50-21, and held a 49-28 advantage in ground balls while clearing 17 of 19 attempts.  The Thunder also controlled 15  of 19 faceoffs.

Freshman Jake Harders (Rocky River/St. Edward) logged all 60 minutes in goal and made 10 saves for the Yellow Jackets.  Junior Matt Lamb collected five saves in 30 minutes of action for Trine.  Sophomore Austin Helm and freshman Sam Margulis combined to record three saves in the second half.

BW returns to action Wednesday, April 3, 2013 at Ohio Valley University for a 3 p.m. game in Vienna, W.Va. before returning to Berea for a 4 p.m. game against Franciscan University on Saturday, April 6, in the second game of a women's and men's lacrosse doubleheader.
