BW Men's Lacrosse Falls to Ohio Valley (W.Va.)

VIENNA, W.Va. – Sophomore midfielder Luke Riemenschneider (Rocky River) registered his second career hat trick, but the Baldwin Wallace University men's lacrosse team lost to Ohio Valley University, 9-8,  at Parkersburg High School.  The game featured three ties and three lead changes.

The loss drops the Yellow Jackets to 3-3 overall.  Ohio Valley improves to 4-6.

In addition to Riemenschneider, who scored a team-high three goals, freshman attack Vinny Carson (Cleveland/ Benedictine) scored two goals, and senior midfielder Andy Caballero (Dallas, Texas/Hillcrest), freshman attack Andrew Madden (Lakewood/St. Edward) and junior attack Tim Hamm (Baldwinsville, N.Y.) each had one tally apiece.  Caballero recorded a career-high three assists, while senior midfielder Kyle Sepesy (Parma/St. Ignatius) notched his first career helper.

Freshman Kyle Aylesworth led the Fighting Scots with a game-high eight points on seven goals and one assist.

OVU began the game on a 4-0 run, keyed by three scores from Aylesworth, including two in the opening quarter, and another from junior Stan Mackey.

Carson got BW on the board with his team-high-tying 12th goal of the season at the 7:26 mark of the second quarter and Riemenschneider put a pair of shots in the net as BW closed the first half on a 3-0 run to cut the deficit to 4-3.  Caballero keyed the jaunt with two assists.

OVU increased its lead to 5-3 at 12:21 in the third quarter with a man-down goal from Aylesworth, but goals from Caballero and Riemenschneider, his third of the game and 12th of the season,  knotted the scored at 5-5.

Aylesworth and Hamm traded goals during a four-minute stretch midway through the period, and Madden scored an unassisted goal at the 4:18 mark to give BW its first lead of the game at 7-6.

Aylesworth tied the game, 7-7, during a man-up opportunity at 13:14 of the fourth quarter and the Fighting Scots retook an 8-7 advantage at 7:45 when Mackey scored his second goal of the game, assisted by Aylesworth.

Carson provided the third equalizer of the game at 5:53 with an unassisted goal, his team-high 26th point of the season.

Aylesworth put in the game-winner goal at 2:01.

OVU outshot the Yellow Jackets, 35-31, and held a 42-37 advantage in ground balls.  Each team won 10 faceoffs and both teams combined to clear 37 of 43 attempts.

Freshman Jake Harders (Rocky River/St. Edward) logged all 60 minutes in goal and made 10 saves for the Yellow Jackets.  Senior Tyler Ross collected 12 saves in 60 minutes of action for the Fighting Scots.   

BW returns to Berea to host Franciscan University at Tressel Field at The George Finnie Stadium on Saturday, April 6, 2013 at 4 p.m. in the second game of a women's and men's lacrosse doubleheader.
