Pair of Hat Tricks Helps BW Men’s Lacrosse Rout Franciscan, 12-2

STEUBENVILLE, Ohio – Sophomore midfielder Luke Riemenschneider (Rocky River) and senior midfielder Andy Caballero (Dallas, Texas/ Hillcrest) each scored a game-high three goals to lead the Baldwin Wallace University men's lacrosse team to a 12-2 win at Franciscan University at Memorial Field.  The Yellow Jackets also beat the Barons, 13-2, a week ago.

The win improves BW to 5-3.  Franciscan falls to 1-11.

Riemenschneider scored his third hat trick of the season while the trifecta was Caballero's second.  In addition, sophomore midfielder Chris Nurse scored his second goal of the season, and junior midfielder Tim Hamm (Baldwinsville, N.Y./ Baldwinsville), freshman midfielder John Grau (Cleveland Heights/ Cleveland Bendictine), junior attack Jason Roberto (Milford, Mich./ International Academy), junior midfielder Steve Humbert (Liberty Township/ Lakota East), and junior midfielder Jake Opincar (Middleburg Heights/ Parma Padua Franciscan) each came off the bench to tally goals.  Freshman attack Andrew Madden (Lakewood/ St. Edward) and Humbert each registered assists.

Freshman attack Vinny Carson (Cleveland/ Benedictine) failed to record a goal or an assist for the first time in eight games.

Freshman Daniel Fay scored both Baron goals.  Freshman Ryan Zbikowski and junior Matt Delgehausen each had assists.

BW jumped out to a 4-0 lead with goals from Opincar at the 13:13 mark of the first quarter and Roberto at 4:55, and a pair of scores by Riemenschneider early the second.  Opincar also collected a game-high nine ground balls and won eight of nine faceoffs.

Fay put Franciscan on the board with his first goal of the game at 6:48 of the second stanza, before Nurse and Humbert each scored to extend BW's lead to 6-1.

Fay added his second goal with just 10 seconds before halftime.

Caballero Pair of Hat Tricks Helps BW Men's Lacrosse Rout Franciscan, 12-2 scored two goals to key a 5-0 third quarter for the Yellow Jackets, and capped his hat trick with BW's final score at 12:22 of the fourth quarter.

BW outshot the Barons, 49-12, held a 40-27 advantage in ground balls, and won 13 of 17 faceoffs.

Freshman Jake Harders (Rocky River/ Lakewood St. Edward) logged all 60 minutes in goal and made four saves for the Yellow Jackets.  Senior Evan Malchano had 15 saves in 60 minutes of action.

BW returns to action Saturday, April 20 when it faces Olivet (Mich.) College at 1 p.m. in Olivet, Mich.
