No. 25 Men’s Basketball Tripped Up by Ohio Northern

BEREA, Ohio –The No. 25-nationally ranked Baldwin Wallace University men's basketball team dropped an 80-73 Ohio Athletic Conference game to Ohio Northern University in the Ursprung Gymnasium inside the Lou Higgins Center

BW (11-3, 5-2 OAC) had three players score in double figures led by senior All-OAC guard Cam Kuhn (Vermilion), who scored 25 or more points for the third consecutive game, as he scored a game-high tying 27 points.  Senior All-OAC forward Jake Fetherolf (Norwalk), who now has 1,026 career points and 850 career rebounds, poured in 19 points. Junior All-OAC and Academic All-OAC guard Jay Battle (Gahanna/Lincoln), who scored his 800th career point, chipped in with 13 points.

With his 27 points, Kuhn moved into seventh on the all-time scoring list with 1,662 points.  He now needs 223 points to pass Hall of Famer Bob Walters (1959-63) in sixth place with 1,844 points.

Ohio Northern (10-4, 5-2 OAC), who is now 30-23 all-time in Berea, had three players score in double digits led by senior guard Nate Burger as he scored a game-high tying 27 points. Junior All-OAC center Ryan Bruns poured in 23 points.  Senior forward Travis Feitshans chipped in 13 points. 

The Polar Bears jumped out to an early 6-0 lead when senior forward Travis Feitshans converted the traditional three-point play at the 19:03 mark.  The Yellow Jackets responded with a 5-2 run to cut the lead down to 8-5 when Kuhn knocked a trey at 18:19. Ohio Northern pushed its lead to 22-10 when freshman guard Brandon Waugh knocked down a tripe at the 10:14 mark.  BW answered with an 9-5 run to cut the lead down to 27-19 when Kuhn converted the three-point play at 8:28. The Yellow Jackets cut the lead down to 33-27 when Fetherolf buried a three-pointer at the 3:53 mark.  The Polar Bears closed out the first half on a 11-4 run to take a 44-31 lead into the locker room. 

Ohio Northern extended its lead to 51-38 early in the second half on a layup by Burger at the 16:42 mark.  BW Jackets cut the lead down to 54-43 when senior forward Mike Kaminski (Medina) knocked down a trey at 13:54. The Polar Bears extended their lead to 60-45 when Bruns put down the alley-oop dunk at the 8:46 mark.   The Yellow Jackets responded with a 11-6 run to cut the lead down to 66-56 on a Battle three-pointer at 6:16. BW cut the lead down to 70-66 when Fetherolf hit all three foul shots at the 3:31 mark. Ohio Northern closed the game on 10-7 run to secure the victory.

The Yellow Jackets are back in action on Saturday, January 13 when they travel to Westerville for an OAC clash with Otterbein University in the Rike Center at 2 p.m.   BW returns home to the friendly confines of the Ursprung Gym for the first game of a four game homestand on Wednesday, January 17 when it hosts an OAC game against crosstown rival and No. 23-nationally ranked John Carroll University at 7 p.m.
