Men’s Basketball Falls to OAC and Cross-Town Rival John Carroll

BEREA, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University men's basketball team was defeated by Ohio Athletic Conference and cross-town rival John Carroll University by a score of 75-67 in the Ursprung Gymnasium inside the Lou Higgins Center.

BW (10-12, 5-10 OAC) had two players score in double figures led by sophomore guard Jay Battle (Gahanna/Lincoln) with 16 points as he went a perfect four for four from beyond the arc.  Senior forward Mike Kaminski (Medina) contributed 12 points.

John Carroll (15-6, 12-3 OAC) had four players score in double figures led by junior guard Matthew Csuhran as he scored a game-high 19 points on five three-pointers.  Senior forward David Caputo would chip in 11 points and eight rebounds to combine with Csuhran for 30 of the Blue Streak bench's 34 points.  Senior guard David Lanine and freshman guard Ryan Berger would each contribute 15 points combining to go 9 for 10 from the free throw line.

In a back and forth first half John Carroll sank six three pointers on half the attempts with four coming from Csuhran.  The biggest lead of the first half would be attained after a 10-0 run from the Blue Streaks on a three-pointer from Csuhran at the 7:27 mark that gave John Carroll a 26-17 lead.  The Yellow Jackets would answer quickly with a 9-0 run of their own after a free throw from junior guard Cam Kuhn (Vermilion) at the 3:41 mark to tie the game at 26-26.  A three-pointer from junior guard Antonio Vuyancih at the 1:58 mark would cap off a 6-2 run from the Blue Streaks to close out the half with a 32-28 lead.

In the second half, an exchange of baskets early in the second half would bring the Yellow Jackets within two points of the Blue Streaks 38-36 after a jumper from Kuhn at the 16:22 mark.  John Carroll would storm ahead with a 20-7 run after a layup from Berger would give the Blue Streaks their largest lead of the game 58-43 at the 7:30 mark.  A layup from freshman guard Michael Quiring (Brunswick) would bring the Yellow Jackets within single digits 55-64 at the 4:06 mark; however, the Yellow Jackets could not string together a final run as John Carroll would close out the game 75-67.

BW will be back in action on Saturday, February 11 when it travels to Bexley for an Ohio Athletic Conference game against Capital University in the Performance Arena at 2 p.m.
