TIFFIN, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University men's basketball team suffered a 87-86 loss against Heidelberg University in an Ohio Athletic Conference game in the Seiberling Gymnasium.
BW (9-9, 4-7 OAC) had five players score in double figures led by junior All-OAC guard Cam Kuhn (Vermilion) and junior All-OAC forward Jake Fetherolf (Norwalk). Kuhn scored a game-high 25 points and Fetherolf recorded his 18th career double-double with 12 points and 16 rebounds. Sophomore guard Jay Battle (Gahanna/Lincoln) added 18, senior guard Zack Brandy (Hudson) contributed 11 and freshman guard Michael Quiring (Brunswick) chipped in 10.
With his 25 points, Kuhn jumps to 18th on the all-time BW scoring list with 1,265 points. He needs 118 points to pass Kevin Krakowiak (2010-2014) for 15th place with 1,383 points.
Heidelberg (8-10, 4-7 OAC) had four players score in double figures led by junior guard Kiere Bennie as he scored a team-high 23 points. Junior guard Chris Moxley added 15, senior guard DeAvery Collins scored 12 and sophomore forward Prince Benson contributed 11.
After sophomore guard Jay Battle (Gahanna/Lincoln) finished a lay up to give the Yellow Jackets a 4-2 lead at the 18:58 mark Heidelberg led for the remainder of the half. The Student Princes extended its lead to 16 when junior forward Mike Mason made a layup to make the score 47-31 with 1:30 left in the half. A short 5-0 run to close out the half by BW cut the Heidelberg lead to 47-36 at halftime.
In the second half, Heidelberg worked its lead back up to 15 when sophomore guard Andrew Grothouse put in a layup with 14:49 remaining to make the score 64-49. Fetherolf knocked down a three-pointer which capped off a 29-14 run for the Yellow Jackets to tie the game at 78-78 with 5:37 remain. With the game tied at 86-86 with one second remaining Student Prince senior guard DeAvery Collins made one of two free throws to seal the victory for Heidelberg.
BW will be back in action on Saturday, January 28 when it travels to Marietta for an OAC game in the Ban Johnson Arena at 3 p.m.
