Men’s Basketball Beats Otterbein to Earn Season Series Sweep

WESTERVILLE, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University men's basketball team defeated Otterbein University by a score of 78-64 in an Ohio Athletic Conference game in the Rike Center.

BW (10-11, 5-9 OAC), who swept the season series, had five players score in double figures led by freshman forward Tyler Colombo (Strasburg/Tuscarawas Central Catholic) and freshman guard Michael Quiring (Brunswick) as each scored 11 points.   The 11-points for Colombo was a career-high.  Junior All-OAC forward Jake Fetherolf (Norwalk), junior All-OAC guard Cam Kuhn (Vermilion) and sophomore guard Jay Battle (Gahanna/Lincoln) all contributed 10 points. 

Otterbein (7-14, 3-11 OAC) had three players score in double figures led by senior forward Bryan Mackenzie as he scored a game-high 20 points.  Junior guard Corey Howard poured in 16 points while freshman guard Austin Springer chipped in 10 points. 

The Yellow Jackets opened the game on an 8-2 run when senior Academic All-OAC guard Zack Brandy (Hudson) buried a three at the 18:24 mark.  The Cardinals responded with a 9-4 run to cut the lead down to 12-11 when Corey Howard split a pair from the charity stripe at 14:58. BW answered right back with a 20-3 run to push its lead to 32-14 on a three-pointer by junior forward Mike Kaminski (Medina) at the 7:04 mark.  The Yellow Jackets outscored Otterbein 15-13 down the stretch and took a 47-27 lead into the locker room.  Colombo scored the final BW basket of the first half on a layup with 26 seconds left.

The Cardinals started the second half on a 7-3 run to cut the lead down to 50-34 on a layup by junior forward Michael Howard at the 16:49 mark.  The Yellow Jackets answered with a 6-0 run to extend the lead to 56-34 when sophomore guard Kyle Nader (Vermilion) split a pair of free throws at 13:42. Otterbein went on an 11-5 run to cut the lead down to 61-45 on a layup by Springer at the 8:55 mark.  The Cardinals outscored BW by a count of 19-17 down the stretch.
