Two Men’s Basketball Players Selected All-OAC

BEREA, OHIO -- Baldwin-Wallace College men's basketball sophomores Kyle Payne (Brunswick) and Kevin Krakowiak (Valley City/ Parma Heights Holy Name) have been selected (Monday, February 27, 2012) as second-team All-Ohio Athletic Conference student-athletes.  

Payne, the 2010-11 OAC Freshman-of-the-Year, earned his second All-OAC honor after being tabbed honorable mention as a freshman. This season, he led the team in scoring with 14.2 points-per-game and was second in rebounding with 5.3 rpg.  Payne shot 49 percent from the field on 127-of-259 attempts and recorded 20 assists,  four blocked shots and 11 steals.  He recorded a season and career-high tying 25 points in an 89-81 win against Alma (Mich.) College on December 30, 2011 and grabbed a season and career-best 11 rebounds in a 68-63 road victory at Muskingum University on December 17.

In two seasons and 50 games played with 50 starts, Payne is averaging 14.7 ppg. and 5.1 rpg. He has 737 points, 255 rebounds, 37 assists, 33 three-pointers, 27 steals and 13 blocks. Payne also has been selected as the OAC Player-of-the-Week on two occasions.

Krakowiak earned his first All-OAC honor after finishing second on the team with 14.0 ppg. and 45 three-pointers.  He  led the team in free throw percentage with 89.2% on 58-of-70 attempts and recorded 70 rebounds, 38 assists, 10 blocks and 23 steals.  The 6'4" sharpshooter scored a season and career-high 31 points in an 80-74 win against Heidelberg University on January 25, 2012 and grabbed a season and career-best seven rebounds in the victory against Alma. He was subsequently tabbed as the OAC Player of the Week.

In two seasons, Krakowiak is averaging 11.8 ppg. He has 591 points, 125 rebounds, 79 three-pointers, 70 assists, 14 blocks and 39 steals. As a freshman, he set an OAC and B-W school-record by shooting 94.5 percent from the foul line for the season by canning 52-of-55 attempts. For his career, Krakowiak is shooting 88% on 110-of-125 attempts.

"Kyle and Kevin each had an outstanding sophomore season and were reasons we had a much-improved season," said fourth-year Head Coach Duane Sheldon.  "They are two of our foundations for future success. We are looking forward to both returning next year and being large factors in our quest to win an OAC title and to return to the NCAA Division III Tournament."

Payne and Krakowiak helped the Yellow Jackets to have a solid season and compile a 16-10 overall and 11-7 OAC record, including wins against the top three seeded teams in this year's OAC Tournament.
