Ameen Scores 17 as Yellow Jackets Beat Heidelberg

TIFFIN, OHIO  – Junior forward Chris Ameen (Broadview Heights/ Walsh Jesuit) came off the bench to score 17 points as the Baldwin-Wallace College men's basketball team defeated Heidelberg University, 90-69, tonight (Wednesday, December 7, 2011) in the Seiberling Gymnasium in Tiffin. With their victory, the Yellow Jackets won their fourth straight game and improved to 5-1 overall and 2-0 in the OAC. With the loss, the Student Princes drop their fifth game of the season and fall to 1-5 overall and 0-3 in the OAC.
 
In addition to Ameen, sophomore guard Kevin Krakowiak (Valley City/ Parma Heights Holy Name) scored 14 points, sophomore center Tyler Farrell (Brunswick) had a career-high 13 points and junior Ben Umbel (Poland/ Seminary) had a career-high 12 points and grabbed a team-high seven rebounds.  Senior forward Darion Capers led Heidelberg with a game-high 22 points.

B-W netted the first five points of the game off a Ferrell jumper that was followed by a quick push down the court following a rebound by Umbel and Krakowiak canned a three-pointer. Heidleberg junior guard Dane Givner responded with a jumper and and sophomore guard Mike Petrie added a foul shot to cut the lead to 5-3 with 18:07 left in the half.
 
B-W scored the next four points to build a 9-3 lead at 17:25 before Heidelberg responded with a three-point run to cut the lead to 9-6 at 15:50. The Yellow Jackets then outscored the Student Princes 42-18 the remainder of the half and went into the lockerroom with a 51-24 advantage at the intermission.
 
In the second half, B-W extended the lead to 31 points at 64-33 with 14:32 left when Umbel made a layup.  Heidelberg got as close as 14 points at 83-69 with 1:22 left when Petrie made a layup.

B-W is back in action this Saturday, December 10 when the Yellow Jackets travel to Wilmington for an OAC game against the Quakers in the FRed Razik Arena at 4:00 p.m.  It is the nightcap of a women's and men's doubleheader. The B-W and Wilmington women tipoff at 2:00 p.m.
