Football Drops OAC East Road Game to Marietta

MARIETTA, Ohio -- The Baldwin Wallace University football team was defeated by Marietta College in an Ohio Athletic Conference East Division game by a final score of 30-20 inside Don Drumm Stadium.

The Yellow Jackets were led by  sophomore quarterback Keagan Armitage (Ashland) completed 15-of-27 passes for 154 yards with one interception.   Junior All-OAC running back Jon Murray, Jr. (Cincinnati/Withrow) rushed for 26 yards on 17 carries with one touchdown.  Junior wide out Darius Stokes (Canton/GlenOak) led the receiving corps as he caught seven passes for 89 yards. Junior Academic All-OAC linebacker Nick Pankow (Ashland) led the defense for the second straight game as he tallied a career-high and a game-best 14 tackles. 

The Pioneers were led by sophomore quarterback Ethan Brown as he completed 8-of-24 passes for 125 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions.  Sophomore running back Bryce Agnew rushed for 97 yards on 17 carries with three touchdowns.  Sophomore wide out Dre Baldwin caught three passes for 85 yards with one touchdown.  Defensively,  junior linebacker Vic Giovengo had 11 tackles.

In the first quarter, Marietta jumped out to the early 7-0 lead on the one-yard touchdown carry for sophomore running back Bryce Agnew.  Senior place kicker Logan Alward added the point after at the 7:42 mark.  BW tied the game at 7-7 when sophomore running back Gino Fornaro (Chesterland/West Geauga) scored his first collegiate touchdown on a two-yard.  Sophomore place kicker Dean Sarris (Canton/GlenOak) tacked on the point after at 2:02.

The Pioneers regained the lead at 14-7 when Drew Brown caught a 35-yard pass from Ethan Brown.  Alward hit the extra point at the 13:04 mark.   The Yellow Jackets cut the lead down to 14-13 on a Murray, Jr. one yard run but Marietta blocked the extra point, and it was returned by Dominick Glenn returned it for defensive extra point to make the score 16-13 at 10:52.

The Pioneers scored the first points of the second half when Agnew went 29-yard to pay dirt for his second touchdown.  Alward added his third extra point to push the score to 23-13 at the 14:05 mark of the fourth quarter. Marietta pushed its lead to 30-13 on the third touchdown of the game for Agnew on an 8-yard rush and Alward hit the extra point at 8:05.   BW closed out the scoring when freshman wide receiver Greg Parries (Solon) caught his first collegiate touchdown on three-yard pass from senior Academic All-OAC quarterback A.J. Miller (Coral Springs, Fla./Coral Springs Academy) and Sarris converted his second PAT with 1:52 remaining. 

The Yellow Jackets are back in action on Friday, March 26 when they play their home opener against Muskingum University in an OAC East Division game on the Tressel Field inside the George Finnie Stadium at 7 p.m.
