BEREA, Ohio – Baldwin Wallace University Fourth-Year Head Football Coach Jim Hilvert has announced the addition of Tyler Haines and Clayton Stanton '19 to his coaching staff for the 2020 season.
Haines enters his first season as the defensive coordinator, outside linebackers coach and co-special teams coordinator. He comes to Berea after serving the last five years as the head coach, quarterbacks coach and offensive coordinator at NCAA Division II Urbana University, which closed its doors this past spring. Prior to Urbana, Haines was the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at NCAA Division II Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP) from 2013-14. Before IUP, he was the offensive coordinator, linebackers and special teams coach at Adrian (Mich.) College from 2008-13. He began his coaching career at Piqua High School where he was the defensive backs and wide receivers coach. Haines earned a Bachelor of Science in integrated social studies and secondary education from Defiance College in 2006 . As a player, he was a three-year letterwinner and two-time first-team All-Heartland Conference linebacker. Haines recorded 143 tackles, 39 tackles-for-loss, 9.5 sacks and four interceptions. He was a three-time Dean's List student, a 2006 preseason All-American, an ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District selection, an All-North Region selection and was a semi-finalist for the Draddy Trophy, an award known as the "Academic Heisman".
"Tyler is a great addition to our staff," said Hilvert. "He brings a lot of experience on both sides of the ball. He is very strong recruiter, who has established great relationships with high school coaches throughout the area. He is a person of very high character that is a winner!"
Stanton begins his first season as an assistant offensive line coach. He was a three-year lettermen and starter on the offensive line for the Yellow Jackets. Stanton earned of Bachelor of Arts in sport management. He also was a student-assistant in the Office of Athletic Communications and a student-assistant with facilities and stadium operations.
"I am extremely happy that Clayton decided to get involved in college coaching," stated Hilvert. "He is a very promising young coach that I expect big things from in the future."
BW finished the 2019 campaign with an overall record of 7-3 and third place finish in the OAC with a mark of 6-3.
