Winters Secures First Career Indoor Weekly OAC Award

BEREA, Ohio -- Sophomore pentathlete Melanie Winters (Stow/Stow-Munroe Falls)  has been selected as Ohio Athletic Conference Women's Field Athlete of the Week.

Winters, who garners first indoor weekly honor, scored 3,488 points as she finished first of 10 competitors in the five-event pentathlon at the 2014 All-Ohio Division III Multi-Event Championships hosted by Denison University on Sunday. She placed first in all but one event.  The 3,488 points is the sixth best point total in NCAA Division III this year and set a BW school-record.  Winters had season-bests in every event except the shot put. She won the 60-meter hurdles in a time of 8.94 (922 points), the high jump clearing 5' 3.75" (759 points), the shot put with a throw of 31'6.50" (504 points), the long jump with a leap of 17'10.25" (683 points).  Winters took second in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:35.97.

The Yellow Jacket track and field teams are back in action on Friday, February 14 when they host the annual Mid-February Meet on the Harrison Dillard Track at 5 p.m.   BW then travels to Westerville on Saturday to compete in the All-Ohio Division III Championships hosted by Otterbein at 11 a.m. The final home indoor meet is the Friday, February 21 when the Yellow Jackets host the annual Greater Cleveland College Indoor Championship Meet at 5 p.m.
