BW Women's Track Team Finish Third at Mid-January Meet

BEREA, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University men's and women's indoor track and field teams each placed third of four teams at the annual Mid-January Meet on the Harrison Dillard Track inside the Lou Higgins Center Fieldhouse. This was the first indoor meet of the season for the Yellow Jackets.
 
The BW men scored 156 points to finish behind Case Western Reserve in first place with 232. The Yellow Jacket women scored 154 points to finish behind John Carroll in first with 225. 
The BW women were led by sophomore Melanie Winters (Stow/Stow-Munroe Falls) who won the long jump with a jump of 18.2.5 feet and the 55-meter hurdles in a time of 8.56.  She also was second in the high jump with a leap of 5-2.25 feet
 
In field events, the Yellow Jacket women were led by. Senior Victoria Brown (Berlin Center/Western Reserve) won the high jump with a mark of 5-4.25 feet.  Sophomore Abby Snow (Massillon /Jackson) took third in the long jump with a leap of 15-1.25. Sophomore Kim Gallavan (Auburn Township/Kenton) won the weight throw and shot put with throws of 49-3.75 and 12.51 respectively. Sophomore Maggie Urban (Cleveland/St. Joseph's Academy) placed second with a toss of 47-9.75. Freshman Kasey Clouse (Norwalk) placed third in both events with throws of 42-07.00 and 10.37 respectively.
 
In running events, senior Nicole Smith (Geneva) won two events as she captured the 400-meter dash in a time of 1:02.33, the 200-meter at 27.49 and anchored the 4x400-meter relay team along with sophomores Sam Lang (Akron/Green) and Ashley Wakut (Seven Hills) and senior Brook Hradisky (Aurora) that finished second with a time of 4:12.09. Sophomore Kali Fittro (Tiffin/Columbian) placed first in the 5000-meter run with a time of 19:14.16 and senior Brooke Hradisky (Aurora) won the 800-meter run in a time of 2:21.93. Freshman Katie Richter took second in the 55-meter dash in a time of 7.85.
 
The Yellow Jacket track and field teams are back in action on Saturday, February 1 when they travel to Ada to compete at the Ohio Athletic Conference North Split Squad Meet at 5 p.m.  The next home meet is the annual Mid-February Meet on February 14 on the Harrison Dillard Track at 5 p.m.
