Winters and Holowecky Go 1-2 at All-Ohio Multi-Events Championship

GRANVILLE, Ohio – Sophomore Melanie Winters (Stow/Stow-Munroe Falls) and freshman Rachel Holowecky (Amherst/Firelands) finished first and second, respecively, of 10 competitors in the five-event pentathlon at the 2014 All-Ohio Division III Multi-Event Championships hosted by Denison University in the Mitchel Fieldhouse

Winters scored 3,488 points and placed first in all but one event.  The 3,488 points is the sixth best point total in NCAA Division III this year and set a Yellow Jacket school-record.  She had season-bests in every event except the shot put. Winters won the 60-meter hurdles in a time of 8.94 (922 points), the high jump clearing 5' 3.75" (759 points), the shot put with a throw of 31'6.50" (504 points), the long jump with a leap of 17'10.25" (683 points).  She took second in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:35.97.

Holowecky scored 2,863 points to rank 35th in Division III this year. She set season and career-bests in all events.  She placed second in the high jump clearing 5'0.25" (655 points) and the long jump with a leap of 16' 0.50" (530 points).  Holowecky was third in the 60-meter hurdles in a time of 9.82 (746 points) and 800-meter run in a time of 2:38.33 (592 points).   She also was ninth in the shot put with a toss of 23' 2.75".

The Yellow Jacket track and field teams are back in action on Friday, February 14 when they host the annual Mid-February Meet on the Harrison Dillard Track at 5 p.m.   BW then travels to Westerville on Saturday to compete in the All-Ohio Division III Championships hosted by Otterbein at 11 a.m. The final home indoor meet is the Friday, February 21 when the Yellow Jackets host the annual Greater Cleveland College Indoor Championship Meet at 5 p.m.
