BEREA, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University women's tennis team defeated Capital University, 8-1, in its Ohio Athletic Conference opener on the "Pop" Collins Courts.
BW (2-9, 1-0 OAC) won all three doubles matches versius Capital (1-4, 0-1 OAC) and led, 3-0, after doubles action. The number one doubles duo of juniors All-OAC and Academic All-OAC student-athlete Kelsey Blatt (Tallmadge) and Mackenzie Donalson (Hilliard/ Davidson) won, 8-1. The No.2 duo of sophomore Claire Watts (Medina) and junior Mackenzi Baker (Vermilion/ Elyria Catholic) won, 9-7. The No.3 tandem of freshman Shannon Finkenthal (Beachwood) and junior Hayley Peterson (Tulsa, Okla.) won, 8-3.
In singles play, BW won five of six matches. Blatt won at No.1 by the scores of 6-3 and 6-1. Watts won at No.2 by a 6-0 and 6-2 count. Donalson won at No.3 by a 6-2 and 6-1 count. Finkenthal won at No.4 by the scores of 6-1, 5-7 and 6-0. Freshman Kayla Eeg (Waterford, Pa./ Edinboro General McLane) won at No.6 by the scores of 6-2 and 6-4.
The Yellow Jackets are back in action on Friday, March 27 when BW hosts a non-league match versus Adrian (Mich.) College on Friday, March 27 at 4 p.m.
