BEREA, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University women's golf team hopes to go par for the course in 2017-18 and in the Ohio Athletic Conference under the direction of fifth-year Head Coach John Kapusta.
Kapusta returns five letterwinners and two of the top four scorers from last year's team that placed sixth at the OAC Championships. In collegiate women's golf, the team score is determined on the four lowest rounds carded by five individuals.
Leadership will turn to juniors Grace Magee (Skaneateles, N.Y.) and Erinn Maynard (New London) as the veterans and two of the team's top four scorers from the conference championships. Magee finished last year ranked second on the team with a 94.05 stroke average and shot a career-best 86 in the final round of the OAC Championships while Maynard averaged 99.84 strokes per round, good enough for fourth on the team.
Nikki Gannon (North Ridgeville) makes her return to the links this fall as a graduate student. She did not play during the 2016-17 season but averaged 101.53 strokes per round in 2015-16 and has a career-low round of 88.
The other returning golfers are sophomores Hannah Durst (Madison) and Emily Hunt (Marysville). In their first seasons on the team, Hunt averaged 103 strokes per round while Durst shot an average of 105.68.
Kaputsa welcomes four new faces to the greens this year as freshmen Aubrey Baumler (Huron), Rachel Lyons (Gray, Ga./Jones County), Danielle Randle (Chicago, Ill./Lindblom Math & Science Academy) and Rachael Sladky (North Olmsted) will all look to round out the scorecard this season.
The collegiate golf schedule is split into a fall and a spring season. BW opens the fall portion of the 2017-18 schedule when it hosts the Yellow Jacket Invitational on Saturday and Sunday, September 2-3, at the Mallard Creek Golf Club in Columbia Station. Tee time on Saturday is at 10 a.m.
