Murphy Punches Ticket to Nationals - Women's Cross Country Finishes 15th at Great Lakes Regional Championships

NORTON, Ohio – Baldwin Wallace University women's cross country All-Ohio Athletic Conference and Academic All-OAC runner Hope Murphy (Mogadore) punched her ticket to the NCAA Division III National Championships for the third consecutive season, as the women's cross country team placed 15th of 42 eligible teams at the NCAA Division III Great Lakes Regional Championships, hosted by John Carroll University at the Silver Creek Metro Park Cross Country Trails. 

In a 6-kilometer event that was composed entirely of schools within the Great Lakes Region, DePauw (Ind.) University took home the Great Lakes Regional team title with 90 points and Calvin (Mich.) University placed second with 90 points. Winning the tiebreaker, DePauw secured the regional automatic bid to the National Championships. 

The Yellow Jackets were led by: 

  • Murphy, who was fifth of 269 runners, finished in a time of 20:53.83 

  • Freshman Abbie George (Ebensburg, Pa. / Central Cambria) placed 37th with a time of 22:01.0 

  • Freshman Rylee Barno (Columbus / Bexley) placed 102nd with a time of 23:13.7

  • Junior Academic All-OAC Jaelyn Jaquay (Cherry Valley, N.Y. / Springfield Central ) placed 130th with a time of 23:36.9

  • Sophomore Katie Plecko (Ravenna / Rootstown) placed 150th in a time of 23:52.0
