Women's Cross Country Takes 11th at Tommy Evans Invitational

NORTON, Ohio  The Baldwin Wallace University women's cross country finished 11th at the season opening 54th annual Tommy Evans Invitational hosted by the University of Akron at the Silver Creek Metro Park Cross Country Trails.

BW, who competed against NCAA Division I, II and III schools, was 11th of 16 teams with 340 points.  The Yellow Jackets were fifth of eight Division III schools.  NCAA Division I Bowling Green State University was the champion with 46 points.

BW was led in the 5K event by:

  • Junior All-Ohio Athletic Conference and Academic All-OAC runner Hope Murphy (Mogadore) as she finished 26th in a time of 18:57.23
  • Freshman Abbie George (Ebensburg, Pa. / Central Cambria) in her first collegiate race finished 81st in a time of 20:03.10
  • Sophomore Katie Plecko (Ravenna / Rootstown) crossed the finish line at 85th in a time of 20:10.14
  • Junior Academic All-OAC runner Jaelyn Jaquay (Cherry Valley, N.Y. / Springfield Central) finished 118th in a time of 20:54.90
  • Sophomore Charlotte Jones (Brecksville /Brecksville-Broadview Heights) placed 120th in a time of 20:58.75

The Yellow Jackets return to the course on Friday, Sept. 15 when they travel to Cedarville to compete at the All-Ohio Championships hosted by Cedarville University on the Elvin R. King Cross Country Course.
