BEREA, OHIO - The defending Ohio Athletic Conference champion Baldwin Wallace University women's cross country team joined the men today (Wednesday, September 1, 2010) at the season-opening and unscored meet at The College of Wooster.
The women competed either in a 4K or 5K race and the men ran a 5K and a 4-mile race.
For the women, senior Kim Chinn (Zanesville/ West Muskingum) led the way by winning the 5K race in 19:31. She was followed by sophomore Sarah Rospert (Milan/ Edison) in seventh place in 20:58 and juniorJudy Patterson (Aliquippa, Pa./ Monaca Center) was 20th in 23:34 overall. A total of 32 runners competed in the 5K. In the 4K, freshman Lauren Hutka (North Ridgeville/ Grafton Midview) led all BW runners in fourth place in 16:06. She was followed by freshman Brooke Hradisky (Aurora) in eighth place in 16:31, sophomoreShaina Kovatch (Parma/ Valley Forge) in 10th place in 16:35, sophomore Tess Hoogeveen (Westerville/ South) in 16:38, sophomore Lauren McGaughey (Allison Park, Pa./ Hampton) in 14th place in 17:00, freshman Blair Vrcan (Mentor) in 15th place in 17:01 and junior Julie Kotesovec (Litchfield Township/ Lodi Cloverleaf) in 17:10. There were a total of 36 runners.
Zach Szablewski
For the men, junior Zach Szablewski (Tiffin/ Calvert) led the way in the 4-mile run by placing third in 21:49. Sophomore Kenny Janosko (Mentor) was sixth in 22:16. There were a total of 35 runners. In the men's 5K, junior Drew Beck (Canandaigua, N.Y./ Canandaigua Academy) led all BW runners in fourth place in 17:04. He was followed by freshman Dusan Vasic (Broadview Heights/ Brecksville-Broadview Heights) in fifth place in 17:15 and sophomore David Gerding (Strongsville) in sixth place in 17:36. There were 29 total runners.
The Yellow Jackets are back in action this Saturday, Sept. 4 when they travel to Hunting Valley, Ohio to participate in the annual Case Western Reserve University Bill Sudeck Meet at 11:00 a.m.
