The women competed in a 4K run and were second of six school and the host school won the meet title.  The men were third of six teams and ran a 6K with Allegheny (Pa.) College as the meet champion.

"It was a great start to the season," said veteran Head Coach Dr. Bill Taraschke. "We ran against some outstanding competition today and that helped to push our runners, which is always good at this point in the season."

For the women, senior Kim Chinn (Zanesville/ West Muskingum) led the way by placing second in the 4K race with a time of 14:45.42. She was followed by sophomore Sarah Rospert (Milan/ Edison) in 10th place in 15:36.78, senior Karin Coyne (Columbia Station/ Columbia) in 15th place in 16:00.16,  freshman Lauren Hutka (North Ridgeville/ Grafton Midview) in 16th place in 16:05.62 and freshman Brooke Hradisky (Aurora)in 18th place in 16:13.59.  There were a total of 74 runners.

"The women were very successful today," said Taraschke. "Case beat us and are ranked fourth nationally, so it was great competition. Our number one and two runners ran real well. Kim [Chinn] and Sarah [Rospert]finished second and 10th, respectively. Karin [Coyne] did real well too. Finishing with two freshman in your top five is always a good sign for the future of our program. We had a good pack of girls following behind but a little too far back perhaps. We will have to tighten that up a bit in our next competition."

For the men, sophomore Ken Janosko (Mentor) led the way and was sixth in 19:38.71.  He was followed in the top five for BW by junior Zach Szablewski (Tiffin/ Calvert) in 21st place in 20:09.96,  junior Drew Beck (Canandaigua, N.Y./ Canandaigua Academy) in 22nd place in 20:17.83, sophomore Dave Gerding (Strongsville) in 33rd place in 20:42.49 and junior Tom Wilkin (Powell/ Olentangy Liberty) was 35th in 20:50.23.  There were 97 total runners.

"Allegheny is ranked third in the country and Case is always a solid team, so it was a good start to the season for our men," said Taraschke. "Kenny was outstanding and ran a great race, but again we need to work harder as a team to move the pack up. Overall, it is early and I was greatly pleased with our efforts."

The Yellow Jackets are back in action next Saturday, Sept. 11 when they travel to Delaware, Ohio to participate in the annual Ohio Wesleyan University Meet at 10:00 a.m.
