Women's Swimming and Diving Wins OAC Opener Over Wilmington

BEREA, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University men's and women's swimming and diving teams opened the 2017-18 Ohio Athletic Conference season as it xxx Wilmington College in the BW Natatorium. 

BW (1-1, 1-0 OAC) defeated Wilmington (0-1, 0-1 OAC) by a final score of 135-69.                                                                                                                                  

The Yellow Jackets were led by senior freestyler Jordyn Miller (Ann Arbor, Mich./Pioneer) as she won the 200-yard freestyle and the 500-yard freestyle in a times of 2:08.55 and 5:48.40. 

In addition, sophomore stroker Erika Nockengost (Cuyahoga Falls) won the 100-yard butterfly in a time of 1:03.55, won the 100-yard breaststroke in a time of 1:13.52 and was second in the 200-yard individual medley in a time of 2:22.91. Sophomore freestyler Allie Thorson (Amherst/Marion Steele) won the 1,000-yard freestyle in a time of 11:53.19 and was second in the 100-yard butterfly in a time of 1:04.69. Freshman diver Lauren Franz (Canton/GlenOak) won the six-dive 1-meter event with 122.05 points and was second in the five-dive 1-meter event with 105.40 points. Freshman stroker Lauren Martello (Huron/Sandusky) won the 50-yard freestyle and the in time of 26.59 seconds and was second in the 100-yard backstroke in a time of 1:05.60 Sophomore stroker Shari Gordnier (Centerville/Dayton Regional Stem) was second in the 1,000-yard freestyle in a time of 12:31.42.  Sophomore diver/stroker Ellie Clymer (Independence) won the five-dive 1-meter event with 144.15 points and was third in the 100-yard breaststroke in a time of 1:15.84.  Senior freestyler Lena Kortis (Canton/Massillon Perry) won the 100-yard freestyle in a time of 59.31 seconds. Junior stroker Sarah Krupp (Williamsville, N.Y./Williamsville South) took third in the 200-yard freestyle in a time of 2:17.65.  Junior freestyler Claire Onchuck (Darrien, Ill./Hinsdale South) finished third in the 50-yard freestyle in a time of 27.08.  Freshman stroker Marisa Kural (LaGrange, Ill./Lyons Township) won the 100-yard backstroke in a time of 1:05.60 and placed third in the 200-yard individual medley in a time of 2:23.91.  Sophomore Olivia Plunkett (Haddonfield, N.J.) was third in the 500-yard freestyle in a time of 6:16.94. Senior stroker Nicole Gladish (Fairview Park/Fairview) finished third in the 100-yard backstroke in a time of 1:13.25.

In relay action, the 200-yard medley relay unit of Kural, Clymer, Kortis and Martello finished first in a time of 2:00.72. The 200-yard freestyle team of Onchuck, Miller, Kortis and Thorson finished second in a time of 1:46.59.

BW is back in action on Saturday, October 28 when it hosts a non-conference dual meet against Bethany (W. Va.) College in the BW Natatorium at 1 p.m.
