BEREA, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University women's swimming and diving teams won its second straight dual meet as it defeated Bethany (W. Va.) College in a non-conference dual meet inside the BW Natatorium.
BW (2-1) defeated the Bethany (0-2) by a final score of 124-43. The Yellow Jackets posted seven individual champions and two relay winners.
Earning victories for BW were senior freestyler Lena Kortis (Canton/Massillon Perry, senior stroker Courtney Severns (Bucyrus), sophomore freestyler Jenna Ball (Salamanca, N.Y.), sophomore stroker Shari Gordnier (Centerville/Dayton Regional Stem), sophomore stroker Olivia Plunkett (Haddonfield, N.J.), sophomore freestyler Allie Thorson (Amherst/Marion Steele) and freshman stroker Lauren Martello (Huron/Sandusky).
Kortis won the 50-yard freestyle in a time of 26.86 seconds. Severns captured the 100-yard breaststroke in a time of 1:21.95. Ball picked up the win in the 200-yard freestyle in a time of 2:21.02. Gordnier took first in the 1000-yard freestyle in a time of 12:31.08. Plunkett touched the wall first in the 500-yard freestyle in a time of 6:11.52. Thorson earned the victory in the 100-yard butterfly in a time of 1:03.81. Martello won the 100-yard freestyle in a time of 59.08 seconds.
For the Yellow Jackets in relay action, the 200-yard medley relay unit of senior stroker Nicole Gladish (Fairview Park/Fairview), Severns, Kortis and senior freestyler Jordyn Miller (Ann Arbor, Mich./Pioneer) took first in a time of 2:06.79. The 400-yard freestyle relay of Ball, Gordnier, Gladish and junior stroker Sarah Krupp (Williamsville, N.Y./Williamsville South) touched the wall first in a time of 4:18.82.
BW is back in action on Saturday, November 4 when it travels to North Manchester, Indiana for a non-conference dual meet against Manchester University inside the Strauss-Peabody Aquatics and Fitness Center at 1 p.m.
