Jacob Earns All-OAC Honors, Women's Swimming in Third Place After Day One of OAC Champs

AKRON, Ohio – Sophomore All-OAC freestyler Olivia Jacob (Canton/McKinley) earned All-Ohio Athletic Conference honors to lead the Baldwin Wallace University women's swimming and diving team to third place after the first day of competition at the OAC hosted by Ohio Northern University in the Ocasek Natatorium on the campus of the University of Akron.

BW is third of five teams with 144 points.   John Carroll University leads after the first day with 247.5 points.  

The top three individuals and the top two relay teams earn All-OAC honors.

Highlighting day one was Jacob as she placed second in the 500-yard freestyle in a career-best time of 5:15.52.  She earns her second straight All-OAC honor after placing second in the 1,650-yard freestyle last year.

In addition, sophomore stroker Erika Nockengost (Cuyahoga Falls) and freshman stroker Marissa Kural (LaGrange, Ill./Lyons Township) placed fourth and fifth in the 200-yard individual medley in career-best times of 2:13.62 and 2:15.71.  Sophomore freestyler Allie Thorson (Amherst/Marion Steele) took sixth in the 500-yard freestyle in a season-best time of 5:22.66.  Senior freestyler Lena Kortis (Canton/Massillon Perry) took seventhin the 50-yard freestyle in a time of 25.24 seconds.  Kortis swam a career-best 25.04 seconds in the prelims.

In relay action, the 200-yard freestyle unit of Kortis, junior freestyler Claire Onchuck (Darien, Ill./Hinsdale South), senior stroker Courtney Severns (Bucyrus) and freshman stroker Lauren Martello (Huron/Sandusky) finished fourth in a season-best time of 1:41.59.   The 400-yard medley quad of senior freestyler Jordyn Miller (Ann Arbor, Mich./Pioneer), sophomore stroker Ellie Clymer (Independence), Kural and Nockengost, finished in fourth in a season-best time of 4:01.83.

The Yellow Jackets are back in action for the second day of the OAC Championships on Friday, February 16.  Preliminary action will begin at 10 a.m. and the finals will be contested at 6 p.m.  The OAC Championships will be contested on Saturday, February 17.
