BW lost to the host Waynesburg, 22-21 and to Messiah (Pa.) College, 24-12, but defeated York (Pa.) College, 26-8. The Yellow Jackets are now 2-5 overall on the season.
For the Yellow Jackets, junior 174-pound defending Ohio Athletic Conference champ and 2009 NCAA Division III national qualifier Andrew Scavuzzo (Cuyahoga Falls/ Woodridge) and junior 133-pounder Phillip Payne (Orange) each finished 3-0 for the day. Also 197-pounder junior Tristan Stoll (Norwalk) finished 2-0. Junior 157-pounder Korey Leonhard (Kinsman/ Pymatuning Valley) and sophomore 285-pounder Ryan Jones (Uniontown/ Lake) each finished with a 2-1 record.
In the first match versus York (Pa.), BW winners were 149-pounder freshman Danny Huffman (Maple Heights)by a major decison, while 133-pounder Payne, 141-pounder Eric Schubert (Oberlin), 157-pounder Leonhard, 165-pounder Joe Georgian (Eastlake/ Villa Angela-St. Joseph), 174-pounder Scavuzzo, 197-pounder Stoll, and heavyweight Jones each won by decision to give the Yellow Jackets a dual meet victory.
In the loss to Messiah, junior 197-pound Cody Quick (Mount Vernon) won by a pin in 1:31. Payne and Scavuzzo each won by decision at 133 pounds and 174 pounds, respectively.
In the defeat to Wanyesburg, 174-pounder Scavuzzo pinned his opponent in 2:37 while 197-pounder Stoll pinned his opponent in 1:10. 133-pounder Payne, 157-pounder Leonhard, and heavyweight Jones each won by decision.
The Yellow Jackets are back in action on Saturday, December fifth when they travel to Rochester, New York to wrestle in the Rochester Institute of Technology Tournament at 9:30 a.m.
