BEREA, OHIO -- The Baldwin Wallace University wrestling team won four of the night's last five matches with two pins en route to a 25-20 victory over Ohio Athletic Conference and Cleveland cross-town rival John Carroll University on Senior's Night (Tuesday, February 9, 2010) at the Urspung Gymnasium in Berea. The win was only the second over JCU in program history and first since a 20-16 victory in 1992.
With the win, the Yellow Jackets improve to 5-13 overall and 1-5 in the OAC and next compete on Saturday February 20 at the OAC Championship Tournament at Mount Union College. With the loss, John Carroll falls to 5-7 overall and 2-4 in the OAC.
Prior to the match, the College honored seniors 141- pounder Eric Schubert (Oberlin) and 184-pounder Cody Quick (Mount Vernon) for their hard-work and dedication over the past four years.
For the Yellow Jackets, junior 133-pounder Phil Payne (Orange Village/ Orange) won by forfeit. Junior Korey Leonhard (Kinsman/ Pymatuning Valley) moved from his usual 157 pound weight class and won by a 3-2 decision at 165 pounds. Junior Andrew Scavuzzo (Cuyahoga Falls/ Woodridge) followed with a pin in 6:34.

Junior 197-pounder and reigning OAC Wrestler of the Week Tristan Stoll (Milan/ Edison) pinned his opponent in 6:01 to give the Yellow Jackets a 21-20 lead and sophomore heavyweight Ryan Jones Uniontown/ Lake)sealed the deal with a 10-2 major decision in the final match of the night.
The OAC Tournament will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 20 at the McPherson Academic and Athletic Complex in Alliance. Last season, BW placed fifth overall and qualified Scavuzzo for the NCAA National Championship Meet.
