BEREA, OHIO -- The Baldwin Wallace University wrestling team lost to Ohio Athletic Conference rival Ohio Northern University, 31-13, tonight (Tuesday, February 2, 2010) at the ONU Sports Center in Ada.
With the loss, the Yellow Jackets fall to 4-13 overall and 0-5 in the OAC and next compete at the 24th Annual John Summa Memorial Tournament on Saturday, February 6 in the Lou Higgins Center Fieldhouse at 10:00 a.m. With the win, Ohio Northern improves to 15-10 overall and 5-0 in the OAC.
For the Yellow Jackets, junior 133-pounder Phil Payne (Orange Village/ Orange) and senior 141-pounder Eric Schubert (Oberlin) each won by decision, 14-7 and 9-2, respectively. Junior 197-pounder Tristan Stoll (Milan/ Edison) won by major decision, 20-7, and sophomore heavyweight Ryan Jones (Uniontown/ Lake) followed with a 5-2 decision. Stoll (14-3) and Jones (14-7) share the team lead in wins heading into the weekend.
Following this weekend's Summa Tournament, BW is back in action next Tuesday, Feb. 9 when it hosts OAC and Cleveland cross town rival John Carroll University. This is Yellow Jackets final regular season match before the OAC Tournament which will be held on Saturday Feb. 20, 2010 at 10:00 a.m.
