Yellow Jacket Wrestlers Finish Seventh at the RIT Tournament in Rochester, New York

BEREA, OHIO -- The Baldwin Wallace University wrestling team finished seventh of 10 teams competing today (Saturday, December 5, 2009) at the annual Rochester Institute of Technology Tournament in Rochester, New York.

The Yellow Jackets had 49.5 total points and were led by junior 197-pounder Tristan Stoll (Milan/Edison), junior 174-pounder Andrew Scavuzzo (Cuyahoga Falls/ Woodridge) and sophomore 285-pounder Ryan Jones (Uniontown/Lake).

Stoll was 4-1 on the day and improved his season mark to 7-1. He earned two major decisions in rounds one and two by scores of 18-7 and 16-6 before losing 8-2 in round three. In the consolation bracket, he won by pin (1:23) and by an 8-1 decision to finish third.

Scavuzzo posted a 2-2 record and placed fourth at 174 lbs. He received a bye into round two and won by an 8-5 decision before falling 3-2 in round three. In the consolation bracket, he won by pin (6:02) and lost by a 4-0 decision to place fourth. Scavuzzo's season record stands at 12-2 overall.

Jones also received a bye into round two and won by pin (2:17) before falling 2-1 in round three. In consolation action, he won 5-2 and lost 9-2 to finish fourth. Jones� season record stands at 8-3 overall.

In addition for BW, junior 157-pounder Korey Leonhard (Kinsman/ Pymatuning Valley) finished the day 2-2 to move to 6-5 for the year. Posting 1-2 records were sophomore 125-pounder Jeremy Dombrady (Copley), junior 133-pounder Phil Payne (Woodmere/Orange), sophomore 165-pounder Michael Hosta (Hinckley/ Medina Highland) and freshman 165-pounder Joe Georgian (Eastlake/ Villa Angela-St. Joseph).

The Yellow Jacket grapplers are now idle with Fall Semester exams this coming week and then Winter break. The next action is on Tuesday, January 5, 2010 when BW hosts Ohio Athletic Conference rival Wilmington College in the Rudolph Ursprung Gymnasium in Berea at 7:30 p.m. Then BW remains home to face perennial NCAA Division III power Central College of Iowa in Ursprung in an afternoon matinee on Thursday, Jan. 7 at 1:00 p.m.
