Jackets Win Two on Day Three In Florida

KISSIMMEE, FLA. -- The Baldwin-Wallace College softball team won its third straight game today (Tuesday, March 6, 2012) by defeating Bluffton University and Methodist (N.C.) University on the third day of the annual Rebel Spring Games at Oren Brown Park.

The Yellow Jackets defeated Bluffton 7-3 and then knocked off Methodist by a final score of 6-2 to secure the day three sweep. B-W will play four more games in the final two days.

In game one, the Yellow Jackets offense produced seven runs on 13 hits led by freshman shortstop Brittany Lightel (Tallmadge) who went a career-best 3-for-3 with a walk, run scored and one run batted in. Sophomore outfielder Ashley Elber (Milan/Edison) also was perfect at the plate as she went 2-for-2 with two walks, two runs scored and two RBI. Sophomore third basemanLauren Feciuch (Kent/Field) went 2-for-4 with a run scored and one RBI.

On the mound, sophomore Tabitha Murray (Mogadore/Field) picked up her first win of the season as she allowed three runs on three hits with two strikeouts and six walks.

In game two, the B-W offensive continued to kick on all cylinders as it scored six runs on 14 hits. Feciuch and Lightel continued to have hot bats as they combined for five hits. Feciuch led the attack with a career-high tying three hits (3-for-4) and had two RBI. Lightel went 2-for-3 with one RBI. Sophomore first baseman Kaity Mullen (Avon Lake) had her best game of the season as she went 3-for-3 with one run scored and one RBI.

On the mound, sophomore Justina Wise (New London) picked up her second win of the season as she allowed two runs on seven hits and struck out six batters and surrendered four walks.

B-W continues play at the Rebel Spring Games tomorrow (Wednesday, March 7, 2012) as it will face Albion (Mich.) College and Bluffton on the fourth day of action. The Yellow Jackets play at 9:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m.
