Softball Team Splits OAC Doubleheader versus Wilmington
BEREA, OHIO --  The Baldwin-Wallace College softball team split an Ohio Athletic Conference doubleheader against Wilmington College today (Sunday, April 15, 2012) at the Cuyahoga County Fairgrounds Field. The Yellow Jackets won the first game by a score of 11-3 in six innings and lost the nightcap by a 4-3 count.

With the split, the Yellow Jackets are now 16-12 overall and 5-5 in the OAC. The Quakers are 12-18 overall and 3-7 in the OAC.

In the first game, Wilmington took the early lead as it scored one run on one hit in the top of the first inning.  The Quakers pushed their lead to 3-0 as they plated two runs on three hits in the top of the third inning.

B-W cut into the lead, 3-1, as it scored one run on three hits in the bottom of the third.  Junior rightfielder Alyssa Brown (Hudson) singled to right center.  Brown would advance to third on the double to right center by senior second baseman Katie Finley (Vermilion). Brown would score on the RBI single by freshman shortstop Brittany Lightel (Tallmadge).

 
The Yellow Jackets would take the lead, 5-3, in the top of the fourth inning as they plated four runs on three hits.  Sophomore designated player Tabitha Murray (Mogadore/Field) led off the inning with a single and would advance to second on the single up the middle by sophomore first baseman Kaity Mullen (Avon Lake).  Senior left fielder Sarah Baker (Mentor/Lake Catholic) reached on an error by the second baseman.  Murray would score and Mullen advanced to third.  Sophomore centerfielder Ashley Elber (Huron/Edison) hit an RBI single through the right side to score Mullen and Baker advanced to second.  The bases would be loaded when Brown was hit by a pitch.  Finley would walk and Mullen would score while the bases remained load.  Elber would score on the sacrifice fly by Lightel.
 
B-W would close out the scoring as it would score six runs on six hits in the bottom of the sixth inning.  Elber led off the inning with a single down the left field line.  Brown would single up the middle and Elber advanced to second.  Sophomore outfielder Kate Carabin (Norwalk/St. Paul) would pinch run for BrownElber and Carabin each advanced a base on the sacrifice bunt by FinleyLightel would walk to load the bases. Elber and Carabin scored on the RBI single by sophomore pitcher Justina Wise (New London).  Lightel advanced to third and Wise to second on the throw.  Lightel would score and Wise advanced to third on the RBI single by Murray, who went to second on the throw. Wise and Murray would each score on the RBI single by sophomore third baseman Lauren Feciuch (Kent/Field).  Feciuch stole second and scored the final run on the RBI triple by Baker.
 
The Yellow Jacket offense scored 11 runs on 14 hits as five players each had two hits.  Feciuch and Lightel each went 2-for-4 with two RBI.  Elber was 2-for-3 with an RBI and two runs scored. Murray was 2-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored.  Brown rounded out the hitting attack as she went 2-for-2 with a run scored.
 
On the mound, Wise picked up the win and improved to 4-4 on the season.  She pitched six innings and allowed three runs with three strikeouts and two walks.

In the second game, B-W took an early 2-0 lead as it scored two runs all coming on a two-run homerun by Mullen in the bottom of the first inning.  Murray scored on the homerun after she reached on a double to left field.
Wilmington took the lead, 3-2 in the top of the second inning as it plated three runs on two hits. The Quakers scored their final run of the game, 4-2, when they scored one run on two hits in the top of the third inning.
 
The Yellow Jackets cut into the lead, 4-3, when they scored one run on three hits in the bottom of the sixth inning. Mullen led off the inning with a single but was forced out on the fielder's choice by Baker.  Baker would advance to third on the single by ElberBaker scored on the RBI single by Brown.
 
The B-W offense scored three runs on eight hits and was led by Mullen who went 2-for-3 with a homerun and three RBI.  Feciuch was also 2-for-3.

On the mound, two Yellow Jacket pitchers combined to allow four unearned runs on five hits.

B-W is back in action on Tuesday, April 17 when they host Heidelberg University in an OAC doubleheader at 3:30 p.m.  The Yellow Jackets also plays host to NCAA Division II Ursuline College on Thursday, April 19 in a non-conference twinbill at 3:30 p.m.
