NORTH RIDGEVILLE, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University men's tennis team defeated Alma (Mich.) College, 8-1, in a non-conference dual match at the North Ridge Racquet Club.
The Yellow Jackets (2-0) swept doubles play and won five of six singles matches against the Scots (1-2).
In doubles, the number one team of junior All-Ohio Athletic Conference and Academic All-OAC player Peter Harris (Akron/Revere) and junior All-OAC player Doug Ganim (Westerville /Olantangy Orange) posted an 8-4 victory against Bryan Schutte and Luke Van Fleet. The number two tandem of sophomore Nathan Katz (Upper Arlington/Bexley) and sophomore Jake Leibler (Medina) won an 8-4 decision against Trent Pontious and Jared Guy. The number three team of junior Kevin Fredrick (Archbold) and sophomore Brian Carano (Akron/Revere) earned an 8-6 win against Grant Hill and Chad Barnhart.
In singles, Harris won by identical scores of 6-2 against Schutte. Ganim knocked off Pontious, 6-2 and 6-1. Katz defeated Hill, 6-0 and 6-3. Leibler beat Van Fleet, 7-5 and 7-6 (7-2). Carano defeated Noah Ackerman by identical scores of 6-2.
The Yellow Jackets are back in action on Saturday, February 28 when the team hosts Penn State Behrend in a reschedule match in the Lou Higgins Center Fieldhouse at 10 a.m. Later that day, BW hosts Washington & Jefferson (Pa.) College at the North Ridge Racquet Club at 3 p.m.
