BEREA, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University men's soccer team battled the elements as well as Wilmington College in a 4-1 loss in Ohio Athletic Conference action inside a rainy and windy George Finnie Stadium.

Wilmington (9-6, 4-3 OAC) got on the scoreboard first when a BW (7-8-2, 2-4-1 OAC) foul led to a free kick for Niklas Martensson, who entered the night tied for second in the OAC in goals with the reigning OAC Forward of the Year, junior two-time All-OAC and Academic All-OAC forward Danny Ruple (Berea/Berea-Midpark) at 14 goals. Martensson sent his free kick deep into the top left corner of the net to give his team a one-goal lead in the 18th minute. The Yellow Jackets were able to respond just three minutes later, however, as a Quaker foul set up the game-tying goal. Junior midfielder Kurt Raney (Mentor) took the free kick, which was initially saved by the goalie. Senior forward Logan Davis (Hinckley/Medina Highland) found the rebound and knocked the ball off the crossbar, which was picked up right in front of the net by junior Academic All-OAC forward Joey Geither (Parma/Normandy) for BW's lone goal. Wilmington's Nati Wallis single-handedly regained a Quaker lead with two goals late in the period and carried a 3-1 advantage into halftime.

The Yellow Jackets started off the second half with three consecutive shots on goal taken by Geither, senior Academic All-OAC defender Jeremy Foust (Strongsville) and Davis, all of which were saved. The Quakers' first shot on goal in the period found its mark as Wallis finished off a hat trick in the 65th minute for a 4-1 lead and the final score of the game. BW continued to work for scoring opportunities late in the game with eight more shots but only one was on goal as Wilmington hung on for the 4-1 victory.

Junior goalkeeper Patrick Mehal (Richfield/Revere) made just two saves on six shots on goal in the loss. The Yellow Jackets doubled the Quakers in shot total (22-11) and also held the advantage in shots on goal (9-6) and corner kicks (12-7).

BW hits the road one final time on Wednesday, Oct. 24, when the Yellow Jackets head to Alliance to take on the University of Mount Union at 7 p.m. inside Mount Union Stadium.
